Estacada High School
Lockdown Drill Completed
Estacada High School recently performed a lockdown drill using the new procedures outlined in the Emergency Preparedness Plan - 2017. A lockdown occurs when there is a danger inside of the building. During a lockdown, teachers lock the door(s) to their room, turn out the lights, close blinds, and students move to a safe place in the classroom away from doors and windows and remain quiet with their mobile phones silenced. While we hope we never experience a lockdown, we need to be sure that we have practiced these procedures as your student's safety is a priority.
In the event of a real lockdown, some students may be in the hallway or commons area where they will need to make a decision to either hide or self-evacuate. If a student feels their best option is to leave the building, then we ask that they call the Sandy Police Department at 503-655-8211 to let them know their whereabouts when they are safe. During a lockdown, if a threat is already inside of the building, front doors may be left unlocked to give first responders easy access to the school and not place staff members in harms way to lock doors when the threat is already inside.
While a lockdown procedure is used when there is an imminent threat inside the building, a lockout is used if there is a threat outside of the building. In this case, our protocol would be to lock all doors leading from the outside into the school. Our classroom doors would be locked and blinds or curtains drawn. The class will continue on as normal but students will be confined to their classroom and not move about the school during a lockout.
Parents and guardians will be notified as soon as possible if we are in an actual lockdown. The communication may include Flash Alert, text, email, phone call, social media, and district website. We ask that you not come to the school during an actual emergency so that first responders will have unobstructed access to the school campus. We also ask that you not call or text your child during an actual event, as a text notification or call ring may give up the location of a student.
If parents need to come pick up students from an emergency situation they should bring photo ID. Students who drive to school that day may still need to be checked out by a parent.

Student Journalism Website is Back!
Currently, they've got the old newspapers (from previous years) on there, two of the best articles from last year, and an article from this year. They're working on posting one new article a day, so keep an eye out for some more awesome student journalism in the coming weeks.
Thank you to student, Ciara Schwimmer, whose efforts got the website up and running.
