HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 1 - 20 July
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back! We are really pleased to be on deck and looking forward to another strong and enjoyable term. In particular we welcome the following children and their families: Ethan Cleeve-Edwards in Year Five Catherine, Harper Deane in Year Two Catherine, Brody Lovell in Kindy Catherine and Ethan Bradley in Three Year Old Kindy.
A big group of children got an early start on Wednesday, with 38 joining Julie Catherall for Running Club at 7.30. We admire your dedication!
Tom Kinder joins us, teaching our Year Four Catherine students for the term while Fiona Ayling is on long service leave, and Mrs Lauren Boland takes over teaching our Year Five Dominic students from Mrs Liz Laverock for the remainder of the year. Our University of Notre Dame student teachers Laura Bombadieri will be teaching alongside Riana in Preprimary Dominic, Abigail Thomas with David Edwards in Year Four Dominic and Chelsea Leber with Lachie Darby in Year Six Dominic, for the term.
To you all, we are so pleased that you have joined our community, and trust that your experiences here will be memorable ones!
Holy Rosary Community meeting Tuesday 24th July at 7pm in the Staffroom. Come along!
Do check out the wonderful HRS report on the Cake Stall on the last day of term. It was amazing!
Next week’s assembly presented by Year Three Dominic and Ana Johnson will be fun – and it will also include a farewell to long time Holy Rosary and Siena teacher Deb Tanham. It would be great to see a BIG CROWD there!
Enjoy your weekend.

THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED ON MONDAY and TUESDAY
We try to align our student free days, where possible, with those of Newman College. This is why we had two days of professional development at the beginning of this term.
Our days were beneficial, interesting and enjoyable. Monday was spent sharing research on the meaning and purpose of Makerspace, and then engaging with our new Makerspace in the library, exploring ways of using it in the most productive way possible. The intent is to broaden ways of working with existing curriculum, increasing student engagement, enhancing collaboration as well as critical and creative thinking. We are most appreciative of the HRC support of funds to further develop the space to the tune of $10 000. These funds add to the $5 000 grant we received following the successful submission by Caroline Mullins and Geordie Thuijs, which really got the project started.
Tuesday morning was spent investigating the best way of scoping out and embedding the 400 odd number facts children should understand by the end of Year Four according to the work of Dr Paul Swan, perhaps the best known numeracy consultant in the country. We do a lot of work in this space, and we want to ensure that if there are better, more engaging and productive ways of doing this, that we use these methodologies. The afternoon was spent focusing on the use of new whole school planning documents developed by Michelle Blythman and Geordie Thuijs.
In short, two diverse days, full of really useful work, continuing the school improvement journey. Sincere thanks to our staff Geordie Thuijs, Caroline Mullins, Michelle Blythman, David Edwards and Lachie Darby who were all involved in the preparations for these days.
Please keep an eye on the calendar! It is as complete as it can be. If there are any changes that we have to make we will let you know as soon as we do.
Seesaw and class blogs, as well as the main HRC Facebook page all continue to be used widely in our school, providing you with plenty of information of what is going on, both in and out of classroom. We encourage you to keep abreast of what is going on and take the opportunity to be involved where you can.

Congratulations to our winners:
It was great to see so many books were read over the wintery holidays! Our kindy friends are now library borrowers and I can’t wait to see them each winking Wednesday with their Holy Rosary library bags, which are not only waterproof and tie up, but can hold the biggest books! Parents can buy them from the uniform shop. We celebrated and thanked our amazing Chess Umpires at a morning tea, ready to start again next week in the Senior Chess Tournament. Our final year 5 Book Club for the year is also underway. What a great start to term 3! Have a great weekend.
