Definitions
Basic: substance with a high pH, therefore containing the properties of a base.
Neutral: substance with a pH of 7.0, making it neither an acid nor a base

2, 1 teaspoon measuring devices
1 glass
5 pH strips, cut into thirds (to make 15)
1, 1-12 pH scale
1 data table
1 knife
1 camera
1 pair of tweezers
1 tomato
bleach
distilled water
1 orange
1 egg
Baking soda
Milk of Magnesia
Sprite
Great Salt Lake water
Lemon juice
Glass cleaner
- Toilet bowl cleaner
Procedure
Use one teaspoon to measure out one teaspoon of substance.
Place teaspoon of substance in glass.
If substance is solid, dissolve one teaspoon of the substance with one teaspoon of tap water in a glass.
Using tweezers to pick up one third of a pH strip and dip in substance until there is color change.
Remove the pH strip and compare its new color to pH scale to find its pH
Record pH in data table
Take picture of used pH strip, pH scale, and substance container
- Redo steps 1-6 for all 12 substances
