Updates for the Week
Hello Wilkesboro families! We hope that you enjoyed this beautiful weekend. Here’s what’s going on this week.
We want to thank you for your generous support of our playground fundraising campaign. We had many donations turned in last week, and we are getting so much closer to our goal! We returned fundraising envelopes and receipts to students, and we hope that families will continue to seek donations. Every donation helps! Friday is our final turn in date. As a reminder, students who turn in ANY donation will receive a “WE CAN DO HARD THINGS!” silicone armband and those who raise $30 or more will get a t-shirt. You can also help by sharing our online fundraising link on your social media as a way to encourage others to donate. Please note that online donors can contribute directly to benefit your child, just please make sure the donor includes your child’s name in the comments section. Remote learners can turn in donations to our office at any time. https://www.smore.com/awcey-we-play-to-learn
Last week, the StrongSchools NC Public Health guidelines expanded the Covid-19 symptoms we are to use to exclude adults and students from school. Chills are no longer considered a symptom for exclusion, but the list of symptoms now includes sore throat, diarrhea or vomiting, and new onset of severe headache as well as those symptoms noted before -- fever above 100.4, cough, difficulty breathing, and new loss of taste or smell. We sent home updated attestation forms last week with these new details. We realize this shift can be confusing, so if you have questions or need clarification, please reach out to school nurse Kimberly Sluder. Guidelines regarding masks for all persons on campus remain the same.
You can learn more about what’s happening in your child’s classroom on our weekly #WE Rise page here: https://www.smore.com/g9zrj
It’s a busy time, but we are glad for the opportunity of a full spring week together. We appreciate all of your support and encouragement from home. Thank you and have a great evening!

About Attendance
Parents, please note that since we have moved to Plan A, students who are participating in Plan A will be marked PRESENT or ABSENT. If your child is not in school, you will need to send in absence notes as usual and it will be coded as excused or unexcused. If your child is officially quarantined or excluded by the health department and/or the school nurse, your teacher will offer remote learning. If your child participates and submits work each day, the student will be marked PRESENT OFF SITE (1R). If not, the quarantine absences would be excused. If your child needs to be out, we will work with you to make sure your child doesn't get behind.
For students who continue with remote learning note that in order for us to count your child in attendance off site, we must on a daily basis verify that the student is engaged (completing and submitting assignments), on pace (participating in the virtual classroom), or receiving academic/emotional support (directly from the teacher). If this isn't happening, your child will be counted absent. Please make sure that your child is submitting work and that you are communicating with the teacher daily. Thanks in advance for your help!
