Elementary Remote Learning
Edison Public Schools
What Matters...
We need to know your children. We need to know what drives them, what their interests are, what they want for themselves, and what you want for them. It helps us to provide the best learning environment for them. As part of this information gathering, every K-5 teacher will be setting up a short online meeting with you and your child in the first few weeks of school. This will replace small group instruction while we gather information.
The teachers will contact you directly to set this up.
We are excited to know who our students and families are as learners and members of our great Edison community.
Assessments
In the first month of school, your child's teacher will be embarking on some assessments. This is what we do in a traditional model of schooling also.
This is why it is absolutely critical that your child complete any assessments, tests or quizzes on their own. We understand the desire to help our children to excel, but by allowing them to do assessments on their own without your help allows us to do this for the long term!
Remote Learning Contract
In order for this to be successful, we need your help! Here's what you can do to help:
❏ Monitor my child’s attendance by ensuring their participation within in-person and virtual instruction to the greatest extent possible.
❏ Ensure that my child engages in learning activities daily.
❏ Communicate needs to school staff that inhibit participation in daily learning.
❏ Respect the privacy and confidentiality necessary to create a thriving classroom learning environment.
❏ Actively support the privacy and confidentiality of all students by:
❏ Never recording video conferencing engagements, meetings, discussions, lessons, small groups, etc.
❏ Never posting images to social media of students other than your own child(ren) nor staff.
❏ Ensure to every extent possible my child understands and follows the previous statements.
Schedules
Your child's teacher will let you know about their exact schedule with the subjects included.
Kindergarten Orientation
Attendance
Parent Portal
The wait is almost over! Our portal will be open for Elementary only on August 25, at 7pm!
Grades
In grades Kindergarten and grade 1, report cards will include the regular indicators of progress as they would in a traditional year.
Supply Lists
Devices and Materials
Pick up for these devices will be on August 27 and 28th. At this same time, you will be able to pick up materials needed for remote learning. Grades 3-5 will also pick up materials on these days. A pick up schedule will be communicated by your building administration!
Please do not do/use any of the workbooks ahead of time. It is very important that we have them to use in conjunction with the teachers lessons and the order in our curriculum. The materials are used to supplement our lessons and usually have specific instructions attached.
Logging onto the device for Day 1 and beyond
Technology
The Department of Technology will continue to support our students and staff through the remote learning model. The Department of Technology’s online helpdesk portal will be the primary source where students, parents, and staff may enter a helpdesk ticket. We also have an email address and phone number for your convenience. Once a helpdesk ticket is entered, your school technician (with coordination of the school’s main office) will contact and schedule an appointment to service your device; this may include a repair, replace, or providing a loaner device while your device is being serviced.
