PARENT UNIVERSITY SCHEDULED FOR MARCH 23
A Parent University will be held Thursday, March 23 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the Dripping Springs High School Lecture Hall.
Transitions for students can be stressful and challenging. As a Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE), Karen Kinsel Silcox, PhD, will present on the best strategies and tools to support students through any type of transition.
The presentation will be recorded for parents unable to attend.
COMMUNITY BOND INFORMATION PRESENTATIONS
Dripping Springs ISD will hold bond information presentations for DSISD voters at all eight campuses over the next month. Community members can hear information on the upcoming May 2023 bond from Superintendent Dr. Holly Morris-Kuentz and Deputy Superintendent Elaine Cogburn and ask questions. Parents and community members are invited to attend any session.

SPEECH & DEBATE SENIOR CAPTURES TFA STATE TITLE
Dripping Springs High School speech and debate student Jake Broyles made school history on Saturday, March 11 by becoming the first DSHS student to capture a state title at the Texas Forensic Association (TFA) State Tournament with a first-place finish in Program Oral Interpretation.
Program Oral Interpretation is a 10-minute performance that can include some combination of Prose, Poetry, and Drama. All students must have at least two out of the three genres included in their performance. The use of a manuscript is required. The focus of the event is development of a theme or argument through the use of narrative, story, and/or characterization.
Broyles also earned a fourth-place finish in Informative Speaking and was a quarterfinalist in Dramatic Interpretation. Alicia Hernandez claimed a state quarterfinals finish in Dramatic Interpretation while Evie Grimm and Claire Unger were quarterfinalists in Duo Interpretation.
In February, the DSHS speech and debate program qualified a school-record 19 students for the state tournament. In order to qualify, students must earn at least 10 points, which are awarded by placing at TFA invitational qualifying tournaments during the school year.
DSHS POWERLIFTER PLACES FIFTH AT STATE
Dripping Springs High School senior Julia Trimble earned a fifth-place finish in the 132-pound weight class at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association (THSWPA) 6A State Championship on Wednesday, March 15 in Frisco.
Trimble totaled 845 pounds for the meet after competing in squat, bench press and deadlift. Trimble had the second-best deadlift in the field of 18 competitors with a total of 340 pounds. She squatted 325 pounds and bench pressed 180. La Joya’s Keily Guzman won the weight class with 1,005 pounds.
Trimble qualified for her first state appearance after winning the 6A Region 2 Championship earlier this month.
DECA QUALIFIES SEVEN FOR INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
The Dripping Springs High School DECA program qualified a school-record seven students for the International Career Development Conference (ICDC) at the DECA state competition March 9-11 in Dallas.
Advancing to the ICDC in April is Aidan Brunner (Automotive Marketing), Evelyn Chis (Apparel & Accessory Marketing), Gabriella Erb (Business Services Marketing), Margot Heltzel (Business Finance), Samantha Heltzel (Hospitality Services), Morgan Rockwood (Hospitality Services) and Jackson Wiedemann (Human Resources Management).
In January, Dripping Springs had a record 47 students qualify for state following a successful district competition. Fifteen students advanced to the state finals in their respective events, also a school record.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.
The ICDC will be held April 22-25 in Orlando, Fla.

PIANISTS ADVANCE TO STATE SOLO & ENSEMBLE CONTEST
Three Dripping Springs High School pianists qualified for the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest after earning top ratings at the region contest on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Lake Travis High School.
Senior Evelyn Chis, sophomore Everett Kling and freshman Abir Kulkarni received a “I” rating to advance to the state competition.
Students advance to the UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contest by memorizing a Class I solo and receiving a “I” rating from the judges.
The state contest will be held in May in Austin.
