Parent Info for April 29, 2022
Beck Centennial Elementary
M-STEP Testing Begins Mon., May 2
The Michigan Student Test of Educational Progress, or M-STEP, a 21st Century computer-based assessment designed to gauge how well students are mastering state standards. These standards, developed for educators by educators, broadly outline what students should know and be able to do in order to be prepared to enter the workplace, career education training, and college. M-STEP results, when combined with classroom work, report cards, local district assessments and other tools, offer a comprehensive view of student progress and achievement.
The Beck students and staff look forward to seeing how well our students perform on the 2022 M-STEP. The individual scores will be shared with parents later this summer. Our school's annual education report is available online
Background Check for School Volunteers!
Things are finally starting to get back to normal and as we do, we will be welcoming back parent volunteers to help with events (Field Day - June 3), go on Field Trips, or work in the classroom. In order to allow parents into Utica School buildings, parents must have a background check. Attached is a copy, that you can print off, fill out and send back in, - or - call our office and let our staff know to send one home with your child. Once returned, it takes about 2 weeks to be completed. So if your child's classroom has a field trip planned or you would like to come help out on Field Day, please get this filled out and turned in!
Field Day is Coming!
Our annual Field Day is back on for this year! Mr. Chapp is busy planning all kinds of fun events for Beck students. Mark your calendar for Thursday, June 2 (rain date Fri., June 3 - because we know how tricky Michigan weather has been this year!).
Mr. Chapp will need lots of parent volunteers to make this event a success! If you have time this day to come up and help out, please make sure to get your Volunteer Background Check form in and approved! Last day to accept Background Checks will be Friday, May 20 (in order to get them back on time!).
Watch for more information coming soon from Mr. Chapp on all the events planned and how you can help out!
Morning Drop Offs
Please remember to pull your car all the way forward when dropping students off in the morning. Cars should NOT STOP along the south sidewalk. Cars that stop along the sidewalk at the south driveway are causing a hazard to cars driving into the parking lot and turning in off Hayes Road.
Students should ONLY get out of cars along the front sidewalk area. Just like at pick up, pull as far forward as the car in front of you, unload your passengers, then pull into passing lane to continue on.
Students should be able to walk to their classroom doors from wherever they're droppd off - especially now that weather is getting nicer.

First Day School Supply Kits Now Available to Order!
Looking forward to next school year? Our BFV has again renewed the option to order your child's school supplies - and benefit our school! First Day takes our Beck teacher requests for school supplies and creates custom made kits, with all name brand items, for each grade level. When you order, you can rest assured your child's school supplies will be waiting for them on their desk on the first day of school! And you won't have to endure the scavenger hunt through bins at Walmart or Target! Instead, enjoy time with your child in those last days in August! Our BFV earn funds for every kit sold - so it's a double win! Click on the link below to get more information or to order the kits!
Spring is Here - and so are muddy wet clothes!
As the snow melts, we are finding more 'accidents' with students falling into wet areas, or getting pants/shoes muddy, during recess times. If you have 'outgrown' clothes from your children, and would like to donate a few, please let us know!
Our 'clothes closet' of loaner items is very low right now. We are in need of:
- Boys Sweatpants or pants both large and small sizes
- Underwear - boys and girls
- Socks - boys and girls
- Girls sweatpants or pants - size 6x or above
Having a loaner closet of clothes helps parents not have to run to school to provide dry clothing for their child if they fall in a puddle or have their chocolate milk fall on their lap at lunch! If your child needs to borrow some, simply wash them and send them back for another future user.
Have an Unused Tricycle in your Garage?
If you have a tricycle in your garage that is no longer being used - please consider donating it to Beck! We are looking for some recreational equipment for our Young 5's and our CORE+ kindergarten students to use for recess times. If you have a tricycle you are willing to donate, please give us a call (586) 797-3900.
