Northern Battle Strategies

General Ulysses S. Grant sent General Robert E. Lee, a letter suggesting that he surrenders.

Southern Battle Strategies

General Lee and his army marched to northern Virginia , they did not want to surrender. Lee's whole reason for going there was that he wanted land to reassert southern dominants.

Lee and his troops marched to Northern Virginia with the intentions of taking over the land and keeping the Civil War heated. General Grant wanted it all to end. His main focus was persuading General Lee to surrender.

After this battle ended the North was very happy that the Civil War was over
