From the Principal
Hopefully this message finds you well and in good spirits. Can you believe that we are entering the fourth week of the school year? The third week featured our district's College Spirit Week. Scholars and faculty represented their favorite colleges/universities, took virtual tours, and participated in the various theme days. Thanks to Counselor Johnson for organizing and sharing this information. We are also continuing our recognition of Hispanic Heritage month by sharing facts each morning during our announcements. On Friday, we also recognized ALL scholars and faculty who celebrated birthdays during the month of August and those who celebrated birthdays during September through this weekend. We will continue our birthday shout outs on Fridays during our morning announcements. If you are unable to join, just know that we are celebrating you and sending well wishes.
Time is flying, and it has been great to see our scholars engaged in various live sessions and the assignments in Schoology. We may not be able to see faces for our live streaming of morning announcements, but we do see the count of how many are joining, so continue to join us if you can to get your day started with us. As a reminder, scholars in Kindergarten through 5th Grade should have courses for Art, Music, and Physical Education, and they should check those courses regularly to complete assignments for their Electives (formerly known as Specials). Specific questions regarding any assignments (core classes or electives) in Schoology should be directed to the teacher of that course.
We understand that families are still without a device and/or Internet or have limited access to complete assignments via the Schoology learning management system. If this applies to your family, please take a brief moment to complete this form so that we have an accurate count and can reach out directly to your family to discuss ways we can support your child. https://forms.gle/Ayz3qHEn14yoXWZ98
While we are not accepting walk-ins at this time, you are encouraged to call the campus and/or email us for assistance. As a reminder, if you need support with accessing your Skyward/Family Access account, please email family.access@chisd.net. All families are encouraged to log in to make sure that necessary documents for 2020-2021 registration have been uploaded AND email addresses and phone numbers are accurate. If you need assistance and/or have a question about technology, you may email devicesupport@chisd.net, or call the helpline at 469-272-2082.

The Counselor's Corner
Thank you for participating in College Week! It is so exciting to see scholars acknowledge their favorite colleges and future career goals. If you have not already done so, use some time this week to take a virtual college tour of some of your favorite colleges. Virtual college tours can be found in my virtual office at the link below or in Schoology, Course Code P9JK-F24Q-7Q68V.
Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated September 15 – October 15. It is a time to honor contributions, achievements, culture, and history of Hispanic Americans. In 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson declared Hispanic Heritage Week and in 1988, President Ronald Reagan extended the commemoration for one month to include all Latin and Central American countries. Please check out the LRE Virtual Counseling Office for Hispanic Heritage Month activities, live events, and a virtual tour of the Smithsonian Latin Center.
Gifted and Talented
Nominations for Gifted and Talented (G/T) began September 21, 2020 through October 16, 2020 for students enrolled in first grade through fifth grade. If you would like to nominate your child for this program, please contact your child’s teacher to request his/her input. The teacher will be able to tell you if he/she is seeing characteristics of a gifted child and will be able to evaluate your child in relation to others at his/her grade level. Students who qualify for G/T by the end of the first semester, will begin services in spring 2021.
District Nomination Forms, Permission to Test Forms, and the Parent Report Forms can be found on the campus website. You may also click here, to access nomination forms.
A District Nomination Form, Permission Form, and Parent Report Form must be completed and returned to the counselor no later than October 16, 2020. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Rashonda Johnson.
