Welcome Back Brahmas! The 2023-24 school year begins on Monday, August 14. I hope everyone is as excited as me. After an absence of nearly four years, I am back home at Diamond Bar High School, where I spent the first 29 years of my career as a science teacher, instructional dean, and assistant principal. There's truly no place I'd rather be.
Our Assistant Principal, Dr. Corona, and I were honored to speak to the Class of 2027 at Friday’s Freshman Orientation. Thank you, LINC Crew and Special Education Teacher, Tanya Aparicio, for the opportunity as well as for organizing and carrying out a great event.
Our theme for the 2023-24 school year is reveal your greatness. Over the past four decades, Brahmas have been revealing their greatness, and this year we are honoring and continuing that tradition. Brahmas reveal their greatness through participation in the finest programs available at any high school, anywhere. The best Academic programs, the best Activities programs, the best Athletics programs, and the best Arts programs available, anywhere. And every Brahma has Access to all of them. Our commitment to the foundational value of supporting access to the best programs in these four areas is known at DBHS as the 5A’s, and it has guided our school from the beginning. I am a true believer in the power of our focus on the 5A’s.
This will be an exciting first week. We kick off with our traditional 1st Day Rally. For Monday’s Minimum Day Schedule, zero period starts at 7:50 a.m., Period 1a (for morning AP Science classes) starts at 8:14 a.m., and first period starts at its regular time, 8:30 a.m. Consider leaving early to avoid the worst of the traffic.
On Wednesday, our Volleyball season opens at home against San Dimas, and on Thursday, our entire community will gather for the annual Rodeo Roundup, leading up to our first home Football game of the season. The Rodeo Roundup is one of my favorite events of the year. It’s such a great way to kick off the school year and having our first Football game after it ends is a great bonus. I hope to see you there.
