Unit 4
Theme: Unique
Essential Question: What does it mean for someplace, something, or someone to be unique?
Skills:
This week we will use the words and images in order to compare setting and events in stories. We will use transition words when writing and discussing these similarities and differences. We will then take a look at two unique genres, folk tales and fables. We will learn the elements of these special writings.
We will continue reading different versions of the folk tale Cinderella. We compare and contrast each version. This along with our new learning will help us as we near the end of our unit and write our own version of Cinderella.
Homework:
You will notice that the reading homework has changed. Starting this week the students will be completing a Reading Menu/Log. They are still reading at least 20 minutes a night. However, the is now a log to track your minutes and a menu of activities to choose from and complete.
Spelling/Phonics
Skill:
R-controlled /er/ spelled er (teacher), ir (skirt), ur (turn), and or (worm). We will use this sound and spellings in order to read, write, and spell words.
Homework:
Each night have your child choose one of the activities from the spelling menu. Your child/children may create a different activity to practice their words. Please remember to sign their spelling homework each night.
Test:
The spelling test will consist of 5 words and 3 high frequency words from this week's list. It will also include 2 words from previous skills. The students will then choose one word and use it in a meaningful sentence. This sentence will be graded for CAPSS.
Content (Social Studies)
This Week we will begin a new unit in Social Studies called The United States. Our focus will be on democratic ideas, maps, and human-made and physical features of the United States.
