NEW YEAR, NEW ADVENTURE
Treat Yourself To A Unique Experience
February 2017
Welcome to my very first newsletter, Touratrail has sent out newsletters in the past but I never did these myself, I hope you like this one as I don’t have an artistic bone in my body so your feedback will be greatly received.
After a dry 2016 which caused a low olive yield (not a bad thing as picking those black beauties off the tree is extremely hard work, we only managed 310kg this year compared to our best year of 1,750Kg off our 25 trees) the start to 2017 was rain, rain and more rain and even snow much further down the mountains than is usual. There was some severe flooding down on the south coast of Andalucia which is unusual and even Benidorm had a good dump of snow, however this is good news for anyone visiting Sierra Nevada near Granada for a skiing break, hopefully we’ll be going up for a few days if anyone is interested in joining us.
We have sadly had a break from Touratrail due to some family commitments back in the UK but we are back now and have been pushing hard exploring and refining new routes. These are always hard to find as Steve has ridden nearly every inch of southern Spain, but the fruits of this labour is that we end up with routes that are quite often unridden by anyone else, these we have added to the 2000km of trails we already have mapped out, so enough for every level of rider.
We have been doing a lot more riding down by Lake Negratin where the views simply take your breath away, and where we have included a lot more single track routes. Because this is further south of our usual stomping ground we ride from Quesada on the spectacular trails over the Altiplano which takes half a day so I transfer all the riders gear by road and make sure the beer is sufficiently chilled by the time the riding group arrives.
We stay in caves that have been adapted for tourism, so you can all experience what it is like being a troglodyte although there are mod cons compared to years ago.
We are using KTM’s now but I have been unable to prise Steve’s Husky away from him so he is still enjoying himself on one of his favourite bikes.
We have added tour dates and spaces available so check out our website, you know where we are but in case you have forgotten www.touratrail.com
We have shortened our riding season to autumn, winter and spring only as these are the best times for riding in Spain in our opinion, who wants a sweat and dust facial?

January trails and Youtube Channel
Steve has been riding with his friend Steve Wright (not of radio 2 fame) and Steve W has a helmet camera from which Steve has posted some of the video footage on the Touratrail youtube channel (please take a look through and feel free to post comments, LIKE, share and other good stuff - 5% discount off cost of riding in March & April, for anyone doing this).
If you think Steve W looks a bit tired on the photo below this is because Steve and his brother Shaun took him on a long ride around the more demanding terrain and that photo was taken at the top of a steep climb.
Steve has posted three videos on youtube of this ride to demonstrate what’s on offer for the better riders, Enduro Spain Touratrail, Gorafe to Caves After The Rain Part 1 & Part 2.
Although they are both quite long (10 minutes) videos, we made these to demonstrate the many type of trail and different vistas there are in just one days riding, quite unique really.
