Academic WorldQuest 2016
Text of Email from Katie Foehrkolb:
I am the Educational Programming Director for the World Affairs Council of Austin and a fellow High School Social Studies teacher. Each year in February, the World Affairs Council of Austin hosts a competition called Academic WorldQuest. Our local competition is part of the national Academic WorldQuest program and serves as the preliminary contest for the national event in April.
On behalf of the World Affairs Council of Austin, I would like to invite you and your students to compete in this event!
Each year, Academic WorldQuest seeks to inform and engage high school teens and their teachers across the country in global affairs. More than 4,000 students participate and test their knowledge of international affairs, global current event issues, and foreign policy. The winning high school teams at each local competition is invited to participate at the national contest in Washington DC. Our competition consists of 10 rounds of 10 questions about specific global themes.
Schools can register teams of 4 students in grades 9 - 12, however; the contest is especially relevant to students in World Geography, AP Human Geography and Economics.
I have attached our informational packet that includes study guides and information about the themed rounds of questions. I will also provide more thorough information to schools that are officially registered before the competition.
Our competition is scheduled for Saturday, February 27th at Harmony School of Political Science.
If you are interested in registering teams from your school, fill out the google form attached in this email. I will then get back to you with more information.
AWQ is a terrific opportunity to engage your students in global affairs and compete against fellow high school students in the area. We have had great success and participation in this event in past years and want to make it even bigger this year!
Please let me know if you have questions or concerns about Academic WorldQuest or any World Affairs Council educational programming. You can also read more about AWQ at our website wacaustin.org
Thanks!
