Big picture

The mission of West Hills High School is to graduate critical thinkers and problem-solvers who contribute positively to society as productive, responsible citizens.

John Berray Foundation

Hello West Hills Students, Parents/Guardians, and Friends,

I wanted to let you know that the John C. Berray Foundation is launching another You Are a Math Person campaign. All proceeds go to the John C. Berray Foundation that gives scholarships to GUHSD, Helix, and Steele Canyon students.

This time we have added hoodies (zip and pullover), a beautiful blue option, a coffee mug, and the OG black shirt.

You Are a Math Person Options

For those of you who didn't know Mr. Berray, he was a father, husband, and dedicated math professional. He spent 20 years as a math teacher at West Hills before becoming a Digital Learning Coach and then the Math Curriculum Specialist before his passing in February 2020. We encourage everyone to wear their shirts and hoodies on Friday, February 4 (the day before his 50th birthday).

And, if you need convincing that you are a math person, listen to John talk about it in this podcast.

Thank you.

Mr. Dan McDowell

(Previous WHHS Social Science Teacher)

Director of Learning and Innovation

Please remember to call our 24 hour Attendance line 619-956-0434 for any full day absences for students, particularly with COVID related absences. For any partial day absences, students bring a written note to attendance prior to leaving campus or when returning from off campus. Students MUST always have a pass to leave campus or state law requires us to mark them truant. Please direct your student to go to Attendance or the Nurse as needed if they need to leave campus for any reason. Parent and student should not text each other and leave campus without a pass. Thank you.

Penn State University

Interested in learning more about Penn State University? An admissions representative will be on campus to meet with students on Wednesday, December 1 during lunch in The Pit. Come learn all about Penn State admissions and campus life! Sign up in the Counseling office today!

Lunch Time Boundaries

We are a closed campus at lunch. This includes all student parking lots. Please remember to stay within the blue paw print boundaries at lunch time. Students are not to leave campus to get food or other items in their vehicles without staff permission.

Also, it is against school policy to have food delivered from delivery apps such as Door Dash, Uber Eats, Postmates, and other services.

This and many other important policies are noted in our student handbook.

Loss of Privilege Policy

Loss of Privilege (LOP) List: This exists to support the idea that our primary function is “Academics First” and that student behaviors and choices need to prioritize attendance and following school rules. Students may earn their way off of the LOP list through attendance at detention and / or Saturday school after talking with their Assistant Principal. They can also lose a privilege that was granted (i.e. serving Saturday School to be eligible to purchase a Dance Ticket, but then repeat actions (or new actions) that put them back on LOP so that attending Dance is no longer available to them and a dance ticket refund is issued).

See our Loss of Privilege Policy HERE.

The Scholarship Club

Students! After graduation, will you be attending a trade school, community college, or 4-year University? If your answer is yes, do you need money to help pay for it? If so, we would like to invite you to attend the Scholarship Club that is hosted by the Counseling Department. At the scholarship club, we will introduce you to scholarship opportunities and provide time to work on scholarship applications under the guidance of a counseling staff member. For additional information, please contact Ms. Womack in the Counseling Office. The club meets Mondays during lunch and period 7 in the College/Career Center (L-1) located across from the library.

Tutorial Schedule

We are happy to share our 2021-22 tutorial schedule for students who are seeking support and assistance in their academic subjects.

Please report to tutorial at the start of the period offered. Students will sign in at each session and these sign-in logs will be submitted to the main office at the conclusion of each week.

If you have questions on whether your student has attended tutorial, please contact an Assistant Principal Secretary at 619-956-0424 or 619-956-0425 or stop by the Administration office.

Thank you for being an important part of the Wolf Pack!

Observances This Week

We celebrate our diversity and multicultural population within our school community.

This week, we observe the different holidays and celebrations that are acknowledged around the world!

November 28– December 24 ADVENT • Christian Advent is a season of spiritual preparation in observance of the birth of Jesus. In Western Christianity, it starts on the fourth Sunday before Christmas. In Eastern Christianity, the season is longer and begins in the middle of November.
