News in Second Grade

On October 30th we will have our Rasor Red Ribbon Week Parade. We thought it would be really neat to have the students make a boxcar for the parade. They will make the boxcar at home and then bring it to school on Friday, October 3oth. This is optional, however, we would love for all of the students to try and participate. Below you will find the directions on how you can make a boxcar. The only difference is, we are not going to sit in them, we will walk in the parade in them. (See the pictures below) They can decorate the box however they want. There are all kinds of cool ideas on how to decorate your car. Let there personalities shine. The only requirement is the car needs to say something about being DRUG FREE! We are looking forward to seeing all of the cars. Our hallway will be the parking lot. Please do not sent the boxcar up until October 30th.

SECOND GRADE Family Project

We are so excited to send home the first family project of this year. Your child came home with a note on Friday. There was a pumpkin template attached. They are to decorate the pumpkin as his/her favorite story book character and then complete the information page.

Below you will find some examples of real pumpkins decorated as storybook characters. We do not want real pumpkins. The students are to use the paper pumpkin. They can decorate it using any materials. They will also need to cut the pumpkin out.

School/Home Connection

R.O.C.K.E.T Folder

Remember to check your child's folder each night. When we send home completed work, it is put in the back pocket (stay at home) and when we have notes from the office or us, we usually put them in the front pocket so that you see them when you open the folder. Even though the pocket says "Bring back to school," we do not want them back unless it is something that you are to fill out and return to school.

AVID - Advancement Via Individual Determination

Rasor has become an AVID elementary school this year. Second expectations for AVID this year. The students are to write their first and last name at the top of the paper. If there is a name line on the paper, they write their name on the line. If there is not a name line, then they write their name on the top right hand side of the paper. Next semester we will add in the date under their name. We have started doing this on some papers. This is an expectation on each and every assignment we work on. When your child works on his/her homework, this is an expectation you should also have for them. Thank you for your support.
