A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Howard Families,
Thank you for making it a priority to attend your child's parent-teacher conference. It may seem like no big deal but believe me, it is! We know how busy everyone is and how difficult it can be for some of you to arrange to be here during the evening. Thank you! If you were not able to make your scheduled time, please make sure you contact your child's teacher. We pride ourselves on 100% attendance and want to reach this goal again this year.
This week the K-2 kids enjoyed 50s Day. It was a great way to celebrate the 50th day of school. During this day the kids got to experience games, food, and music that was popular during that beloved decade. Of course, no 50s Day is complete without a Sock Hop. As your K-2 child how they did on the limbo!
On a different note. This year, the 3rd-6th graders in Indiana will be taking a new assessment called ILEARN. This assessment replaces the ISTEP. ILEARN will be given during one window in late April and early may and is the basis for our school letter grade. Please read more about this test by clicking here.
Thank you for your continued support!
Picture retakes will be Thursday, November 8, 2018.
HOWARDGRAM UPDATE
COUNSELOR'S CORNER
Hello! I hope you all had a nice and relaxing break!
I am working on finishing up my October lessons in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades. In third grade I read the book "The Worst Day of my Life Ever." This story is about a young boy who has a really bad day because he has trouble listening and following directions. After we read the story, the students played a listening game.
During my time in fourth grade we talked about how important it is to manage stress. I explained the difference between good stress and bad stress. At the end of the lesson, I led the students through a guided meditation.
My lesson in fifth grade was a review on whole body listening. We discussed why it is important to listen with your whole body: eyes, ears, mouth, brain, hands, feet and heart. Each student had a chance to practice their whole body listening skills in a group and through a game.
Sixth grade students spent our time together filling out their graduation promise!
Please call/email me if you ever have any questions or concerns!
