A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Falcon Families!
Happy First Week of June Falcon Families!
I hope you are able to enjoy our warm, sunny weather and spend time with family! We are headed into the last three weeks of school and there are a lot of events coming up. Please look mark you calendars and look for information in the coming weeks about:
Rachel Carson end of the year events - June 9 for the community, and June 18 for 8th grade students.
FOMS 8th grade fly through June 16, 4-7 pm.
I am really looking forward to the Middle School Summer Experience! While there will be some academic components in summer school, it will be a lot of exploration and hands-on activities to help students get excited about school and learning again. Please look for more information and the application!
As we are moving through these next few weeks, we know there will be complex feelings for our entire community; joy, grief, relief, frustration, happiness, sadness, to name a few. Sometimes when students look ahead to summer, they feel anxiety. We have an incredible counseling and social work department that can help with these transitions. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if your student has any questions or concerns about their upcoming transitions.
Have a great week, families!

COVID 19 TESTING ON SITE
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) supports COVID-19 testing in public and private K-12 schools in Oregon for students and staff who display symptoms of COVID-19. The Beaverton School District has registered to have Abbott BinaxNOW rapid antigen testing available for students and staff who develop primary symptoms of COVID-19 at school. Primary symptoms of Covid-19 include:
New or different than usual shortness of breath
New or different than usual coughing
Fever of 100.4 or higher
New loss of taste or smell.
The Abbott BinaxNOW test will only be administered to students who have consent from their parent(s) or legal guardian on file. The student must be capable and willing to perform a nasal swab test independently. The parent(s) or guardian can decline testing and opt to test their child with a healthcare provider. If there is any doubt as to whether a specimen may be safely self-collected by an individual, they should be referred to their healthcare provider for COVID-19 testing. Positive test results will be shared with the Local Public Health Authority to assist in contact tracing.
If you would like your child to participate in this testing program, please complete and return the consent form to the school office. For further information on the the Abbot BinaxNOW rapid antigen test see the following link: FDA information on BinaxNOW test

PANDEMIC ELECTRONIC BENEFITS TRANSFER (P-EBT)
Q.What is P-EBT?
A. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act of 2020 provided additional funding to families whose children qualified for free or reduced-price meals last school year (2019-2020). Money was offered to replace meals that school children would have received at school if school buildings were open. Funds were loaded onto Oregon Trail Cards and sent through the mail or were loaded electronically onto existing Oregon Trail Cards for families already receiving SNAP or TANF benefits.
Q. What’s happening now?
A. Recently, Oregon has applied for more funding. If approved, funds will be available to cover school days from October 2020 through June 2021.
Q. Do I have to apply to get P-EBT?
A. Maybe. Read the next few questions.
Q. My children qualify for benefits under SNAP, TANF, Foster, Migrant, or Homeless programs. Do I need to apply?
A. No. Families receiving benefits under any of the above programs will automatically receive P-EBT funds.
Q. We submitted a Confidential Household Application for Free/Reduced-Price meals during the 2020-2021 school year and the application was approved. Do I need to apply?
A. No. If your family is already approved, you will receive P-EBT funds.
Q. My children attend a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school, where all students receive free meals. Do I need to apply?
A. No. All active students at CEP schools will receive P-EBT funds.
Q. Which schools are Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) schools?
A. Here is a list of CEP schools. If your child attends one of these schools, you will receive P-EBT funds. Aloha Huber Park K-8 Barnes Elementary Beaver Acres Elementary Chehalem Elementary Fir Grove Elementary Greenway Elementary Hazeldale Elementary Kinnaman Elementary McKay Elementary McKinley Elementary Merlo Community School Vose Elementary William Walker Elementary
Q. I applied for Meal Benefits and my application was denied, then our household income decreased. Can I re-apply?
A. Yes. Please submit a 2020-2021 Confidential Household Application for Free & Reduced-Price Meals. The fastest and safest way to apply is online through www.schoolcafe.com. If you are unable to apply online, please pick up a paper application at any meal serving site or request an application from the Meal Benefits office. You can email us at NS-MealBenefits@beaverton.k12.or.us or call (503)356-3957.
Q. My Meal Benefits application was denied, then I received a letter saying my student qualified for free meals under the Oregon Expanded Income Guidelines. Will we receive P-EBT money?
A. No. Meal Benefits are funded through the federal government while EIG is an Oregon-funded program. Please refer to your Expanded Income Guidelines (EIG) letter, which states that “Qualifying for Oregon EIG does not qualify your household for other programs or discounts.”
Q. I have not applied for Meal Benefits for the 2020-2021 school year because all students are receiving free meals. Do I need to apply?
A. If you hope to receive P-EBT, yes. Pandemic-EBT is money, which is different from the food supplied by the Beaverton School District. Please submit a 2020-2021 Confidential Household Application for Free & Reduced-Price Meals. The fastest and safest way to apply is online through www.schoolcafe.com. Q. How will I know if my family qualifies for Meal Benefits after I apply?
A. You will receive an approval or denial letter via US Mail from the Meal Benefits office within 10 business days of your application being processed.
Q. We moved this school year. How will the state of Oregon know where to send my P-EBT card?
To update your address, go to ParentVue (https://parentvue.beaverton.k12.or.us/PXP2_Login_Parent.aspx?regenerateSessionId=TrueParentV ue) or contact your child’s school office. If you have children at multiple schools, you need to contact each school separately.

A. The guardian on record with the school on the date of issuance received the benefit. Be sure your child’s school records are up to date. If you have children at multiple schools, you need to contact each school separately.
Q. When will we get P-EBT funds?
A. Oregon has applied for the funds; the request has not yet been approved by the US Department of Agriculture. After funding is approved, the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) will release more information, including expected dates for distribution of funds.
