D.W. Daniel High School
A Message from Our Principal
Awards Day 2019
This is a reminder to our DHS students. Our Awards Day program and other activities are scheduled for Friday, May 3rd and we will be on an alternate bell schedule, which can be found on our school website:dhs.pickens.k12.sc.us.
Due to the busy nature of the day, students must have a WRITTEN NOTE from a parent/guardian in order to leave campus. All notes must have a valid reason in order to be an excused absence. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY faxes, emails or phone calls from parents.
If students do not have an approved written note, then a parent or guardian will have to sign the student out through the front office.
PreACT/ACT Information Sessions
On Monday, May 20, 2019, a representative from the ACT organization will be here at Daniel High School to meet with our students and faculty. There will be a sophomore class meeting during 4th period. At 6:00 p.m., parents and students (who took the PreACT or ACT on February 20) will have the opportunity to review score reports and hear about other ACT program offerings. Both meetings will be held in the auditorium.
Seat Time
Chromebook Returns
Seniors may begin returning their Chromebooks on Monday, May 6th. Underclassmen may begin returning Chromebooks on Monday, May 20th. Students are reminded to keep their Chromebooks if they need them for exams. Once a Chromebook has been returned, it will not be reissued this school year.
If you have students in multiple SDPC schools, please make sure they have the Chromebooks assigned to them by each school. It is easy for siblings to mix up their Chromebooks by accident. Students can see Mrs. Travis or Mrs. Dyches in the Media Center to verify their Chromebook serial number before they turn it in.
End of Course Testing
Parents and students are reminded that during test sessions, students may not be in possession of any electronic devices including (but not limited to) cell phones, smart watches, and fitness bands. Devices will be collected at the beginning of each test session and will be returned to students as soon as testing is completed. See testing schedule below.

D. W. Daniel Foundation Update
With spring break and prom over and exams and graduation on the horizon, the D.W. Daniel Foundation would like to thank you all for your support! We continue to strive for great things in our efforts and we couldn’t do what we do without your memberships, contributions, and time spent volunteering, which benefits our school immensely!
Last month, D. W. Daniel Foundation funded the purchase of two new microwaves and two stands for the cafeteria so students can warm up their food. We also have special plans for our faculty during Faculty Appreciation Week. We will hold a faculty lunch on May 21, along with other treats for our awesome staff. Our DandeLION shop continues its mission to serve students by confidentially assisting with needs of clothing, shoes, hygiene products, snacks, and school supplies. If you would like to support the DandeLION closet, please contact Maggie Bandy or Maggie Lane- monetary donations are always accepted!
Finally, we want to wish all our students good luck on their exams and congratulations to the class of 2019!! You all are destined to do GREAT things in this world!
Thank you all for supporting the D.W. Daniel Foundation! #OneDaniel #GoLions

Environmental Science
On April 12th, Coach Burk’s environmental science classes took a field trip to Table Rock State Park to release rainbow trout back into the ecosystem. The students had been raising the trout since they arrived as eggs at Christmas time. The classes released 88 trout back into the stream at Table Rock. The trout release program is an annual program run through South Carolina DNR and Trout Unlimited. Students also took part in two workshops where they learned about wilderness survival skills and proper fishing techniques. The day concluded with some time to practice their fishing techniques. Many bluegill were caught and released. It was a great way to start Spring Break. See pictures below.

Thanks to the generosity of Clemson University, all thirty members of the Daniel High School Tiger Alliance had the privilege of attending the two day Men of Color National Summit on April 25 and 26th. The Summit took place at the TD Convention Center in Greenville and it featured renowned speakers from across the nation. Throughout the summit, the students were challenged to push past obstacles, set their goals high, to work hard on a daily basis to achieve those goals, and to surround themselves with people who will lift them up, inspire them, and help them achieve great things. They were challenged to not only reach goals for themselves, but to always strive to influence those around them to be excellent.
Thank you, Clemson University, for investing in our young men’s lives and inspiring them through the Tiger Alliance program. See picture below.
