A Peak at the Week!
Chancellor News and Notes, November 14-18, 2016
Love, Serve, Care.
Words of advice from Jon Gordon:
Do everything with gratitude and love.
The one with the servant's heart is the leader.
Care about the work that you do,
And surround yourself with people who care.
-from The Carpenter
This is especially important as we move past the election and face challenges that may arise, both in our personal and business (school) lives. As educators, we have a duty to our children, to make sure they feel safe and loved, and are able to learn. No matter what is going on around us, that is our primary duty.
Remember to keep conversations in front of students free from any political slant, and keep talk positive and motivational if students bring up anything they may hear at home or in the news. We can keep our environment a happy and secure place for our little ones to come every day and learn and play, and if you need any assistance with students expressing concerns or worries, please let our counselors know.
Mrs. Barr and Mr. H. are awesome at being amazing support systems for our students, so reach out if you need to. :)
Our Comet of the Week is...Pat Garcia!
Mrs. Garcia will choose our next Comet of the Week, and has the honor of the Comet of the Week parking space this week, a jeans pass, and a tasty treat from the Snack Shack when she feels the urge to snack!
This Week is Family Engagement Week in Alief!
- Tuesday: Muffins and Moms (cafeteria/gym area)
- Wednesday: Parent Lunch Day (yes, eating in classrooms again, sorry!)
- Thursday: Parent STEM morning (in the cafeteria)
- Friday: Coffee with the Principals (in the cafeteria)
Muffins and Moms on Tuesday will be the most difficult in regards to logistics. Be prepared to send any students on the Muffins and Moms list that is sent to you down to the main hallway after announcements. There will be family members who did not RSVP that come, so be prepared to have phone calls and volunteers requesting students. Please do not ignore the phone. Feel free to do a "Drop Everything and Read" time during the event (@ 8:30-9:30) if you do not want students missing content.
We had a massive turn-out for Donuts with Dads, and based on the RSVP's, we are going to have even more moms and other family members for this event (which is AWESOME parent engagement, yay!). If you want to come check it out for a few minutes, feel free to switch off with a partner to come see what it's all about! And if you are available to help out, PLEASE COME HELP! It will be greatly appreciated!
