Butte County Community School Foxes
Fall 2021
Principals Note:
Happy Fall BCCS Fox Families!
We are so excited to see rain in the forecast and we can’t wait to see our students continue to grow during the second quarter of the year. Students across the school did well on the beginning of year benchmark assessments, showing little to no summer slide and even some amazing growth! Our new late start Monday schedule is going well and has allowed a lot of amazing collaboration and planning time for our teachers and staff.
The year kicked off to an amazing start and there are many events coming your way during the next quarter! Elementary fun runs start back up this month and will continue throughout the year! Pizza with the Principal began last month and the students were so excited for the Round Table Pizza treat that was donated by the Pillsbury Round Table Pizza! Please keep checking our BCCS calendar on our website. We are working hard to keep all upcoming events posted so you can attend!

Ms. Gemma
Hello, parents! We are already starting quarter 2!
We have started learning about why we have seasons and weather in science. We will be doing some fun art projects themed around fall as well! Intervention groups have been running for several weeks and are going well.
I hope you all are enjoying the cooler weather with your families.
Mr. Mike
Greetings, parents and families! Thanks for your continued support and communication. So far this year has been successful and fun: Students in my class have really enjoyed meeting and learning from our 10-week guest artist, Taz Yamaguchi, also known as IPC (I Paint Creatures). We have also spent considerable time in good literature (3 novels so far) this year and it’s truly fun and refreshing to see students loving literature. Keep in touch if you have any questions or want to drop in for a visit to class.
Mr. Mark
As we are ending our first quarter of the new year here are some things we have been working on. First I would like to say, this has been a great first quarter. Seeing, talking to, and connecting with students has been fantastic. I look forward to seeing what we accomplish for the second quarter. Here is what we have done for the first quarter.
For World History we have finished chapter 3, The French Revolution and Napoleon. Before that we looked at The Legacy of the Ancient World and Revolution and Enlightenment. For Life Science we have finished chapter 5 on Heredity. We are continuing to work through Math Readiness which is on Edgenuity and students are on track. For our 9-10 English we read and discussed a number of short stories and finished reading and summarizing the novel Peter Pan, by J.M. Barrie. We are now in the process of constructing an Argumentative Essay using three sources. For the 11-12 English we will be finishing the novel 1984 by Geofge Orwell, this week and writing an essay on the novel along with summarizing the chapters. Many of the assignments are on Google Classroom where students can check to see what they are missing. All work is due October 15th for the first quarter.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me through email: mabbay@bcoe.org.
Thank you,
Mark Abbay

Greeting All! I’m Mr. Dave. I’ve been working at BCCS for a few years now as your half-time Special Education teacher. I am excited to say that I will be here full-time, so now I will also be your High School teacher as well.
I’m looking forward to working will all of you this year; we’ve got some exciting things going on!
I am looking forward to the 2nd quarter of school. Currently, two of the students are working on independent projects. Six students are completing construction camp where they are building dog houses. Several students are set for graduation in December. These are great young people!

Mr. Jordan
This month, and the rest of this semester, the seniors will be focusing on college applications and researching their degree pathway(s). Our 9-11th graders are focusing on career readiness which includes: creating a resume, soft skills, career research, and mock interview practice. We are working on the Who Am I project in advisory, this project helps students explore, and hopefully help them realize they are capable of amazing things; how they are perceived by strangers is ultimately in their hands is the goal of this project.
We have 6 students that will complete the first round of our Construction Camp, they are working in teams to complete luxury dog houses. Hopefully we can continue to hold a camp each semester.

Winter Assessments
Winter benchmark assessments are at the end of the semester. Students will take middle of year Reading and Math assessments on iReady between November 22-January 7, 2022. Additionally, we will be conducting the Write Score Writing Assessment for grades 2-10 between November 29, 2021 and December 10, 2021. Please remember sleep and nutrition are key to students being able to focus and do their best on these benchmark assessments. Teachers are able to use the information gathered to identify learning gaps and modify instruction to meet the students' needs.
