3rd Grade News
September 22, 2016
Wow – the first few weeks of school have flown by! Yesterday the third grade enjoyed a visit to Forest Trail to hear Aaron Becker, the author of the books Journey, Quest and Return. It was a great experience for students to hear from an author about character development and plot. We have been studying these concepts for the last two weeks in Language Arts. The students are putting their personal experiences into writing during writing workshop. They are drafting their first major writing project, the personal narrative. In Science, we have been busy studying matter and energy for the last few weeks. We are learning about measuring matter which includes calculating length, distance, and volume. We are approximately half way through our second Math unit which focuses on estimation and problem solving skills. Please note that our very first Pops on the Playground for this year will be Friday, September 30th. All parents (and grandparents!) are invited to share in the fun of recess that day. Our recess time is 11:00 to 11:30. The Valley View Carnival is this Sunday, September 25th. It is an afternoon of fun that you do not want to miss! Please check the Cardinal Weekly for more details. Thank you again for all of the teacher apple donations that still keep coming in - we appreciate your support!
