All parents, guardians, teachers, and staff are encouraged to become members of the PTA. If you have not done so already, please take a moment to visit our PTA webpage. 2nd Annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest (Grades 4-6)
What is it:
Students in grades 4-6, who choose to participate, will paint an ARTIFICIAL pumpkin (no larger than a basketball size) to look like a character from a book that we have in the French Creek Library. The pumpkins will be displayed with the books and will be judged by the FC Staff.
Guidelines:
- Students must use a fake pumpkin (plastic, Styrofoam, etc).
- The pumpkin must be painted to look like the character from a book we have in the library.
- Michaels, Hobby Lobby, and Walmart are good places to purchase fake pumpkins and bottles of craft paint at good prices. Some dollar stores also have fake pumpkins.
- It is suggested to use 2 coats of paint for the overall base color.
- Students may attach/glue on items such as ears, beak, etc., however DO NOT cut or carve the pumpkin. 95% of the project should be completed by the student. We understand that parent help may be needed, but want it to be a student project.
- Using a sharpie, write the student’s name, grade, and teacher on the BOTTOM of the pumpkin. Each pumpkin will be given a number so that judges will not know which student painted which pumpkin.
- Students will bring their pumpkin to the library any day up until the due date, which is Friday, October 22nd. Judging will be completed by October 29th and students can bring their pumpkin home the week of Nov. 1st.
Any questions, please email, Danielle Ponto, FC Librarian, at dponto@ojrsd.net.
