Third Grade Performers!

Way to go, Third Graders! They shined last night at their performance. What an awesome group of students and a great message. Thank you so much for your support in helping to get your child here on time. Performance night is always a memorable one (and one of my favorites!).

NWEA Testing

The next round of NWEA testing will take place in May. We will not test this winter, as we've done in previous years. The exact dates have yet to be determined. Once I know the specific dates, I will send them out. If you have further questions regarding NWEA testing, please contact Brett Lobben, our Associate Principal, at 952.975.8216.

Ask your third grader about...

-indoor recess

-visualizing while we read

-the steps of doing homework on Schoology

-the Read-A-Thon trophy and the different genres

Winter Conferences Coming Soon!

-Emails and information will be coming soon regarding winter conferences (February). As we get closer to scheduling conferences, please let me know if you'd like assistance with the process. I am more than happy to help!

The information packet went home last week. We've been working in the classroom to add STARS to our chart for the different genres-fiction, nonfiction, poetry, fantasy/science fiction, and biography/autobiography. As students complete a book, they add a star to the chart. We've also created our LEGO trophy, which will be displayed in our classroom for now, and the display case, after the Read-A-Thon is over. There is nothing to turn in, as we are not tracking minutes read this year.

iPads Will Be Coming Home!

On Tuesday, January 26, the third graders at Forest Hills will begin bringing their iPads home once a week. The third grade teachers are currently working on the details and specific guidelines regarding this process. I know our students are very excited to begin bringing them home!

Students will begin using the app SCHOOLOGY in class, to access assignments and math homework. We'll work through the steps together. It's our goal to have students use iPads at home once a week to do their math homework.

Please remind your third grader to:

-return the planner each day signed by parent/guardian

-return library books to read during literacy block

-return math homework

-returning the Family Journal at the beginning of the next week

Apps To Try...

Don't forget that your student has access at home to the following online resources:

-Spelling City (for our prefix lists)

-IXL (math)

-Raz Kids (reading)

-Word Mover-have them use it to create a poem; words to describe a character in the book they're reading

**If you would like another copy of your child's login information, please let me know. I would be more than happy to send it home/email it to you.
