Benton Weekly Update
Week 28: March 15-19, 2021
Spring Pictures! See's Candies! St. Patty's Day!
Did you move your clocks forward? It's Daylight Savings and classes start an hour earlier!
Yearbooks are now on Sale for $20, and we are soliciting pictures from YOU of learning at home. See below for more information.
Students continue to participate in Digital Citizenship lessons on Wednesdays. With so much of our lives being conducted online, it is important for students to understand how to navigate safely in a digital world. Ask your child about what they are learning and take this opportunity as a family to decide how you will help them safely interact online.
Don't forget to dress up for Spring Pictures and 8th Grade Promotion Pictures on Wednesday, 3/17!

Women's History Month: Carole King Singer/Songwriter
Carole King is the most successful female songwriter of the latter half of the 20th century in the US, having written or co-written 118 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100. King's major success began in the 1960s when she and her first husband, Gerry Goffin, wrote more than two dozen chart hits, many of which have become standards, for numerous artists. She has continued writing for other artists since then. You probably know some of them, You've Got a Friend, You Make Me Feel (Like a Natural Woman), I Feel the Earth Move.
King's success as a performer in her own right did not come until the 1970s, when she sang her own songs, accompanying herself on the piano, in a series of albums and concerts. King has made 25 solo albums, the most successful being Tapestry, which held the record for most weeks at No. 1 by a female artist for more than 20 years. Her record sales were estimated at more than 75 million copies worldwide.
She has won four Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for her songwriting. She is the recipient of the 2013 Library of Congress Gershwin Prize for Popular Song, the first woman to be so honored. She is also a 2015 Kennedy Center Honoree. In addition to music, King is actively involved with environmental organizations in support of wilderness preservation.

After School Tutoring
Spring Pictures ~ Wed. 3/17
Spring Pictures and 8th Grade Promotion Pictures will be taken on Wednesday, March 17.
1. Pictures will be taken from 10:15-3:00 (so students can attend synchronous classes)
2. Cars should enter the East driveway entrance on Olive Branch (as if you were using the circular driveway)
3. Cars will wait in line until it is time to let your student out at the door to the MPR. A staff member will be there to direct you.
4. After students have entered the MPR for their picture, parents will pull their cars forward to the main parking lot to wait for their student.
8th Grade students should come dressed to have a formal picture on March 17. Because of Covid Guidelines, we cannot provide a promotion gown for students to wear in the picture. These are the pictures we will use with the Promotion Certificates (and hopefully, the yearbook) and this is our only day for pictures. If you miss the picture day, you will need to contact LifeTouch about a personal sitting.
Spotlight on Learning ~ Band & Orchestra
Although a virtual concert is a poor substitute for the real thing my hope is that, as we celebrate the accomplishments of these incredible student musicians amidst the challenges and stresses of a global pandemic and distance learning, we will be reminded fondly of concerts past and look forward in earnest to concerts future.
