Sunset Calendar
Yes, we finally have one - thanks to Becky! It has been shared with all of you - if you don't think it was shared with you, please let Becky know and she will go in and SHARE it with you!
Now that we have this piece of organization heaven - it is imperative that you USE it! If your grade level is planning something, please be sure to put it into the Sunset calendar so another event isn't planned over it!
If you are a committee or a grade level planning on an activity and/or event - please be sure to check this calendar BEFORE planning and communicating out!

GREAT JOB 3rd Grade with their Purple song! That was absolutely AMAZING and extremely clever!
Tasks Needing your Attention:
1. Write - Ups for the students chosen for PAWS from your classroom!
2. If your grade level is wanting to perform at the next assembly, please let me know!
3. Writing on Demands - I have heard from a very limited few - I would like to sit in on these if my schedule allows - please let me know your timeline - they should all be done this week...
Engagement Strategy....Cold Calling on Students after you have given a few moments of "Think Time"!
Great Job with weaving in more Math Fact Fluency repititions into your classrooms! I am hearing lots of math facts as I am moving throughout the building! Remember, this is one of our building-wide goals!
Remember that you need to be sending out Parent Communications at least EVERY other week! Also, remember, we are going to try and add in some specifics for our parents that are wanting to support their children at home!
Sunset Christmas party will NOT be Dec. 13 - since their is an in-house conflict! Stay tuned for the next date!
Instructional Coaches Corner....
Last Friday Mel gave us a PD. In the morning we reviewed phonemic awareness and phonics. One part that stood out was creating a sound wall vs. the traditional word wall in the earlier grades, K-2. A sound wall is set up according to the articulation of sounds and approaches this learning from a learner viewpoint rather than a teacher viewpoint. Here are some examples of sound walls.
In the afternoon, Mel focused on independent small groups. One of the biggest themes out of this portion of the PD was having student accountability at these centers. For example, having a job that students have to complete. Here is a link to all of her resources. Think about starting small and incorporating one new idea at a time, making sure to explicitly teach students what they will be doing.
What Happens if I End Unit 2 in Wonders????
After talking with Zach - just a reminder - do not start Unit 3 before break! So, what to do if you are finished or will be finishing up Unit 2?
1. Engage in a Reader's Theatre
2. Review the Wonder's Dashboard - and determine areas (Skills/Strategies) that may need more attention - more I Do and more You Do practice
3. Upper Grades - Text Comparison - analyzing and writing about the differences/similarities between text - THIS MUST BE MODELED first
Let me know if you have any more questions around this!
