NPAS Veterans Day
All NPAS schools held a Veterans Day program last week to honor those who have served and those currently serving.
The Eagle View Elementary’s Veterans Day program featured third grade students in Mr. Jim Kongshaug’s class. Students presented the text “America’s White Table” by Margot Thies Raven to the entire school community. The book is about remembering POWs who weren’t able to come home from wars through symbolism of setting a table where no one will ever sit. Students practiced reading the story in class and all had an active part in the program either through reading or by placing an item on the table. While practicing, students gained a deeper understanding that the table was being set to honor POWs and MIAs, in essence, the most important guests at a dinner. At the conclusion of the program, all class members gathered around the table in a moment of silence.
Eagle View Elementary music teacher, Rachel Hennen shared: “It is an extremely powerful presentation for the student body as we take time to honor the men and women who serve in the armed forces, especially those who are prisoners of war or missing in action.”
Mr. Kongshaug shared, “Each year, it is evident that students take great pride in their contribution to this event and are very proud to participate while honoring our military veterans. Having many family members who served, it has been a joy and honor to have my class present this each year during our Veterans Day program. Many students have family members who have served or are currently in our military. Of those individuals, some may have once been or known a POW or soldier MIA.”
Seussical the Musical
All NPAS 4th graders had the opportunity to view the high school theater production of “Seussical the Musical” this past week. For many 4th graders, this was their first time seeing live theater! Eagle View fourth grader, Brynlee, shared: “My favorite part was when Horton sits on the egg! I’m so glad we got to go to the play because it was so much fun!”

NPAS Severe Weather Statement
NPAS Severe Weather Decision-making Process
The NPAS’ Severe Weather Team’s goal is to minimize the loss of instructional time while being mindful of student and staff safety. In general, we will remain open. To cancel, delay or close schools early poses significant issues for families with transportation and child-care arrangements.
Staff, students and families should always assume school is in session unless we communicate otherwise. IF we decide to cancel school for the day, the decision will be communicated to staff and families no later than 5:30 a.m. or as soon as possible for early release or cold-weather cancellations.
Winter weather is extremely unpredictable and conditions can moderate or worsen very quickly. As a result, we constantly monitor the weather and conditions by relying on the following sources:
National Weather Service and regional meteorologists provide us frequent updates as it pertains to our communities
Area public works and police departments for road conditions, plowing schedule and related impacts.
MN State Patrol for interstate and outlying road conditions.
Neighboring school districts to compare weather assessments and local decisions.
We realize not everyone will agree with our decision. However, we are deliberate and thorough in our process and decision-making as it impacts not only your child, but EVERY child in the school district. Caretakers are encouraged to use their judgment to determine what is best for their children. In the end, we make a final decision based on safety and the ability of our school buses to get students to and from school safely.
Blended Learning Day Expectations
A Blended Learning Day is an opportunity for students to continue learning when school has been cancelled due to inclement weather. Teachers provide lessons which may have a “blend” of online or traditional paper/pencil activities. If a student is unable to complete the lessons due to an illness or other circumstance, their parent should call the attendance line to notify the school of their child's "absence." Reported absences will follow the same protocols as a regular school day. We encourage families to bookmark this site for future reference!
