The Manning Weekly Update
Friday October 15, 2021
Manning Community,
Happy Friday!
We had our parent partnership (school accountability) meeting on Tuesday night and a few things were discussed, including traffic and upcoming student events.
As for traffic, I'm asking that parents don't turn left into our 32nd bus loop when heading west. It is creating congestion on 32nd and confusion within the bus loop. We are working on ordering and putting up a "No Left Turn" sign on 32nd for those traveling west. Until then, I ask that you modify your drop off and pick up plans if this applies to you. If you are traveling west on 32nd, please turn left onto Alkire street and use one of our two loops on Alkire to drop off your student.
Regarding student events, we are not hosting a Halloween dance due to the increase in Covid numbers, still being in outbreak status with the Jefferson County Health Department, and the fact that a 1/3 (6th grade) of our population has not had a chance to get vaccinated yet. I will be open to a spring dance once our entire population has had a chance to get vaccinated and in hopes that we will be out of outbreak status, with decreasing Covid numbers in our community. In lieu of the dance, and in the spirit of inclusivity and something our students can look forward to, we are going to have a "Spirit Week" Monday, 10/25- Friday, 10/29. Student Council will unveil the theme of each day during announcements on Monday afternoon, with Friday, 10/29 of course being Halloween dress up day! The regulations are pretty easy to follow for an acceptable Halloween costume at school:
- Must follow our dress code
- No full masks
- No weapon fascimile
Finally, Jeffco Schools has required that all schools administer a battery called the SSIS-SEL from Pearson. Essentially, this battery evaluates the social emotional skills of your student and then gives our staff data on how to further support your student in further building their social emotional skills. A very important detail to note is that students DO NOT take this assessment, so instructional time is not impacted. Instead, your students teachers assess the students social emotional skills in several different categories including self awareness, self management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. The teachers will complete this assessment 3 different times/year and the hope is that this data will support our social emotional learning and teaching efforts at Manning and further support your student. We already completed the first assessment last Thursday during our staff development day. I've posted the link below if you would like more information. Also, our social emotional learning specialist, Ms. Kari Gray, would be more than happy to speak with you if you have further questions. She can be reached at Kari.Gray@jeffco.k12.co.us.
If for any reason, you would like to opt your child out of this assessment, please email me and I will be sure that your student is taken off the list.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Better Together,
Christian Ramaker

National Junior Honor Society is here!
National Junior Honor Society is an essential part of our student leadership here at Manning. We are excited to acknowledge those that put in the hard work and perseverance to meet eligibility requirements. We want to thank you all for your support and involvement with our community to continue to pursue great character and dedication. Due to the nature of last year, we wanted to honor our 8th graders this Fall in-order-to get them involved in our community as NJHS members this year. Moving forward, we will be inviting our current 7th grade students who meet the GPA requirement to complete all requirements for our Spring Induction ceremony.

If you get breakfast or lunch in the cafeteria, a couple of important reminders:
Every student may have one free breakfast and one free lunch meal. All other items including extra entrees, chips, cookies, ice cream, juice, and water must be paid for. Every meal must be counted at the cashier station, so you must wait in line and put your code in prior to leaving the cafeteria line.
