NO SCHOOL - TOMORROW-Friday, October 8th - NEOEA Day
A message from the Principal-Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Family,
As you are aware, we continue to experience a shortage of bus drivers. It is difficult for us to know when we will have an overflow of cars at pick up due to this. We appreciate your patience as we work to get all cars moving smoothly through the line.
There is information about Halloween parties below. Please be sure to read the message and look for an email from your child's teacher if you signed up to be a room parent or helper!
There will be a PTA meeting next week on Tuesday evening. A link will be sent to join the meeting on Tuesday. Please consider joining to see how you can help the PTA with some upcoming events, including Santa Shop!
Are you a creative person who likes to decorate? We'd love a volunteer or group of volunteers to decorate our front door area for the seasons/holidays! Let us know if you'd like to do that! Have another idea on how you can help? Let us know!

A note from the Ohio Department of Health
The Ohio Department of Health has asked schools to share this information with families:
As you know, the COVID-19 vaccination is a key to keeping Ohio’s students in the classroom, and that’s why the Ohio Department of Health has launched Ohio Vax-2-School. Ohioans between the ages of 12 and 25 who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccination have the chance to win one of 150 $10,000 scholarships and one of five $100,000 scholarships to an Ohio college or university for career or technical education. The entry period is open now. To learn more about this initiative or to submit an entry, visit ohiovax2school.com or call 1-833-4-ASK-ODH.
Fall Fest-October 16th
Flu Shot Clinic
In partnership with Akron Children’s Hospital School Health Services, it is our pleasure to offer on-site flu vaccinations at your student’s school on Monday, October 25th. Flu clinics will be offered at each school location during school hours. Health Heroes flu vaccination clinics are completely voluntary and are offered to ALL consented students, regardless of their insurance coverage.
Why get a flu vaccine?
The best way to minimize or avoid the spread of the flu is to get an annual flu vaccination. Each year the vaccine protects against new strains, therefore, the vaccine should be administered annually.
Who is Health Heroes, Inc.?
At Health Heroes, we specialize in on-site vaccination clinics. Vaccines are provided as a NO-OUT-OF-POCKET expense to students. We bill both Medicaid and private insurance; however, we never bill students or parents for any out-of-pocket expenses or deductibles. Qualifying uninsured students can be given the vaccine, free of charge. Although student participation is voluntary, these vaccinations are recommended to help keep schools healthy and cut down on high absenteeism.
What type of vaccines will be given?
IIV-4 injections will be available to all consented children who do not have any contra-indicators. All vaccines given are preservative-free, mercury-free, Thimerosal-free, and administered by state-licensed nurses.
What do you need to do to participate?
If you wish for your child to participate, please COMPLETELY fill out the consent form, Including ALL insurance information (you must have the member ID numbers filled in), and sign the form. If there is no insurance, please mark the appropriate box on the form. These forms need to be returned to your child’s school prior to the clinic date to secure a dose for your child.
If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact the Health Heroes at 330-573-6864 or 1-205-609-0268/OH@healthherousa.com. For further information, you can also visit our website at www.healthherousa.com. We hope to see your child in the clinic!

Chromebook Care
Birthday Treats-MUST be prepackaged, ONLY
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.
Ohio's Parent Mentor Program
We would like to introduce you to Christina Hemberger, the Parent Mentor for Field and Southeast Local Schools. She is available to our families as a resource and advocate for those students with disabilities. Below is the Parent Mentor brochure. Feel free to reach out to her if you have any questions are interested in learning more about her services. Cell (330)-298-8130

Counselor's Corner- A Note From Miss Livers
Promoting and Developing Growth Mindset
The concept of a growth mindset was developed by psychologist Carol Dweck. Individuals with a growth mindset believe they can improve at a task by dedicating their time, effort, or energy. Developing a growth mindset can help children become more confident, resilient, empowered, and not afraid to fail or make mistakes. Practicing and incorporating a growth mindset can help students change the way they think, feel, and talk about their abilities. When providing your child with praise, acknowledge their effort, progress, and persistence to the given task. You can also highlight their ability to learn from past mistakes and rising to the challenge.
Growth Mindset Examples:
"It's too hard"
Growth mindset: "I'll keep trying"
"I can't do that"
Growth mindset: "How can I get better at that"
"I give up"
Growth mindset: "I will keep working"
"I'm a failure"
Growth mindset: "I can learn from my mistakes"
Growth mindset questions to ask your child
What did you do today that made you think hard?
What new strategies did you try?
What mistakes did you make that taught you something?
What did you try today that was hard?
