Panda PTA News
The PTA would like to welcome all of our Panda Families especially those families joining us for their first year at PES. We are looking forward to PAWrrific year at PES and want to share with you some things that the PTA has planned.
MEMBERSHIP DRIVE -- We are in the early stages of our 2018-19 Membership Drive. Hopefully your student brought home a membership form for you in the Friday Folder. On one side of that sheet you will see our 10 reasons why you should join the PTA. Just know that even if you can’t volunteer or be involved in all of our events, your membership makes a difference. Membership dues are only $5/person this year and must be paid annually. Your membership gives you a vote on how the money raised by the PTA is spent, it allows you to vote for future PTA leaders, and it gets you on our distribution list with access to memberhub, our online PTA community. Want to save some time? Join online at https://pes.memberhub.store
DINING FOR DOLLARS – The Root Cellar has offered to host our second Restaurant Night on Wednesday, September 12th. The Root Cellar will also donate 10% of the proceeds from all meals purchased between 5 and 8 pm to the PES PTA. We are planning more Restaurant nights throughout the school year with many different restaurants in town and hope to have a complete list of dates and restaurants out soon.
PTA Meeting/Curriculum Night – On Tuesday, September 18th, we will hold our first PTA meeting of the year prior to Curriculum night. We will give you an update on events that the PTA has planned for this year and vote on the PTA budget for the 2018-19 school year. Remember that you must be a current PTA member to vote on the budget, so join today.
Monster Dash – Join us for the 9th annual Monster Dash and this year we are chip timed!!!! This family event will include a 5K and 10K run in beautiful downtown Pittsboro and will be held rain or shine! Both races will begin and end at Pittsboro Elementary School. Awards will be given for top male and female finishers, as well as best adult & kid costumes! To register go to https://runsignup.com/Race/NC/Pittsboro/MonsterDashPBO
Sponsors for the Monster Dash are also needed. If you or someone you know might be interested, please contact Michelle Guarino (Guarino.michelle@gmail.com) or visit our Facebook page for more details.
PTA Thrift Shop – Since 1983, over $7 million has been given to Chatham County School PTAs. 40% of profits are distributed evenly across the 17 schools and 60% is distributed based on volunteer hours. You can help PES earn a larger slice of this pie by volunteering. We need people to fill weekly workgroups and empty drop boxes. Can’t make it in the evenings? You can contact the store to be a “drop-in” volunteer who helps straighten the store, sort donations, etc. during store hours. Sign-up information for workgroups and drop boxes can be found here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30e0445aaa72dab9-pespta
Shopping Programs – Do you shop on Amazon, at Lowe’s Foods, or Harris Teeter? Be sure to register for their loyalty programs and link yourself to Pittsboro Elementary PTA. For Amazon’s program, you must use smile.amazon.com as your starting point and select PTA North Carolina Congress Pittsboro Elementary School PTA as the charity you support.
Lunch Visitor
If you are interested in joining your child for lunch, please remember to check in at the office first to get your Visitor badge, then walk to the cafeteria. A staff member on duty will let you in when they see your Visitor badge. In effort to honor board policy for School Visitors, only your child should join you at the Visitor Table in the cafeteria.
Here are questions and answers regarding the Chatham County Schools Volunteer Process. Please make sure to sign up if you would like to volunteer in your child's classroom or on a field trip!
PES Arrival/Dismissal
Arrival
Early arrival is from 7:00-7:40. These students must go straight to the cafeteria where staff are on duty to provide coverage. Normal carpool arrival begins at 7:40. Once arrival begins please pull all the way up to the designated areas to keep the traffic line flowing.
Dismissal
Students will not be dismissed from the office after 2:15 PM. If it is after 2:15 PM, you will be asked to utilize regular dismissal procedures. Dismissal begins at 2:55. Please display the school-issued carpool tag when picking up your child and make sure your child knows his/her number. Please wait in your car at designated signs until an adult assists your child into your vehicle. Once your child is inside your vehicle, and has buckled up by themselves, please pull off slowly.
Transportation Changes
All transportation changes must be emailed to the classroom teacher (prior to 8:00AM) or in writing to ensure teacher is aware of the changes. Last minute and/or emergency changes must be made to the main office before 2:00 PM. Please refrain from calling after 2:00 PM to make transportation changes as it will disrupt our dismissal procedures for the entire school. Any time a student’s transportation home changes from his/her regular routine, the teacher must receive a written note/email from the parent. Staff are directed to send students home regular way unless note is presented - a verbal request from the child to change transportation home will not be honored.
Only a few more days to vote!
