All-State Chorus

February 25-27th Athens, GA

It's Time for All-State!!!

For those of you who are new, All-State is an opportunity for our students to sing with some of the best choral singers across the state of Georgia. Those of you who've been already know what an incredible experience this is, and if I had my way every one of our students would attend every year. All-State is a long process, covering 4 months and involving two separate auditions. This newsletter is a comprehensive overview of this process. Please take some time to look over it and decide if this opportunity is right for you.

Registration

The first step in registering for all-state is submitting your information to me in the All-State Registration form. A link to this form is included below, and it has been sent out to all of your students. There is a $20.00 registration fee that must submitted before a student is allowed to audition. That fee is due Friday, October 2nd.

All State Preperation

We will have All-State rehearsals after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays during the month of October in preparation for the first audition. These are not required, but students who do not participate in at least some of the rehearsals tend to not pass the first round. The dates for these rehearsals are October 6th, 8th, 13th, 15th, 20th, 21st, 27th, and 29th.

In addition to these 8 rehearsals we will have two mandatory pass-offs. On either November 3rd or 5th students will come and to complete a mock All-State audition. This will be a full and comprehensive audition to make sure the students are comfortable with the All-State process. All students are required to attend one of those days.

The First Auditon

Saturday, Nov. 14th 2015 at 8am-5pm

20 Level Creek Road Northwest

Suwanee, GA

The first audition will cover basic music skills such as scales, sight reading, performing a small etude, error detection, tonal memory, and basic music vocab. Each student will be assigned an audition time between 8AM and 5PM. I will let you know what time you receive as soon as it is published. This is a curved audition, with the top X% of all students in the state being eligible to go on to the 2nd round. The cut-off for each voice-part changes every year.

Purchasing Music

If your student passes the 1st round of auditions, the next step will be purchasing a music packet specific to the chorus your student auditioned into. The price of this packet, which includes a learning CD, changes every year but tends to be between $15.00 and $25.00.

The Second Audition

Thursday, Jan. 21st, 3-6:30pm

20 Level Creek Road Northwest

Suwanee, GA

The 2nd round of auditions will cover excerpts pulled from the music for your students choir. This is a pass/fail exam. As long as each students receives a passing score they are allowed to participate in the all-State Conference in Athens.

The Conference

All-State is held in Athens. Check in is on a Thursday, and rehearsals cover your time culminating in a large concert Saturday evening. The concert is free and open to the public, and I encourage you to invite friends and family to participate. A group reservation will be made at a hotel in downtown Athens, but each family will be responsible for their own expenses. Please plan accordingly.
