Booker was on the Newark City Council in 1998 to 2002. He also ran for mayor in 2002 and lost but ran again in 2006 and won vs. Ronald Rice. Then in 2013, during a special election since Frank Lautenberg passed away, Cory Booker was elected in the Senate. He was also the first black Senator in New Jersey.
