PIE Club Food Giveaway
When school released at one o'clock on December 20th, most of Clemens's students began a well-earned break following the end of the first semester. For members of the PIE Club, however, their day was just beginning.
From 1:00 PM until 7:00 PM that evening, PIE Club members loaded two trucks with 3,400 non-perishables that were donated during Corbett's food drive. Others were waiting to unload the trucks and then sort items for selection by the area families in need. Throughout it all, these hard-working teens were always smiling and always ready to serve.
Later in the day, the San Antonio Food Bank delivered pallets with 11,000 pounds of mangoes, limes, onions, tea, chicken, and other assorted meat, as well as hamburger buns, cranberries, celery, strawberries and more. PIE Club members worked hard and fast to create packages for each family.
About 150 families from Rose Garden, Wilder, and Corbett came to pick up food. After they selected the non-perishables, had a snack, and visited with Santa, the teens carried 50-pound packages of food out to the families' cars.
All afternoon, these Buffs all jumped in to help, always asking what else they could do to help. From unloading to breaking down boxes and sweeping, they had a smile on their faces the whole time.
These exemplary students embody what it means to be a Buff, demonstrating the Traits of a Graduate. We are proud of them and what they have done to help the community.

Clemens Performing Arts Center Opening - December 6, 2018
The Samuel Clemens Band program opened the new Performance Arts Center on the campus of Samuel Clemens High School this evening with its Holiday Concert.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Greg Gibson was on hand for the Auditorium’s grand opening. He thanked the Clemens High School music program students and staff for their patience during construction. He also expressed his appreciation to the community for making the investment of tax dollars in the 2016 Bond, which included additions and renovations at Samuel Clemens High School.
Dr. Gibson also recognized Wayne Pruski, Chief Operations Officer for SCUC ISD, for his work on the bond project, which is currently on time and under budget.
To celebrate the event, the combined Bands began the concert with a world premiere performance of "The Samuel Clemens High School Fanfare".
The composition was commissioned especially for this event. The piece combines the musical elements of the School Song and the Fight Song into an exciting presentation that commemorates the opening of the center and the 50th anniversary of the school.
David Mairs, the recently retired musical director of the Mid Texas Symphony, composed the score.
After the fanfare, the Clemens Cadet Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble all performed their programs that included a variety of entertaining holiday music.
The Clemens Band directors are Robert Petrisky, Zack Serrato, and Rob Wheeler. The Color Guard sponsor is Christina Caro.
