Missouri Connections
What Can Missouri Connections Do for Me?
As parents and guardians, you obviously have a lot invested in your child! Your love, concern for their well-being, desire for their success, sense of responsibility, and sincere wish to see them be a happy child and achieving student that matures into a successful adult are driving forces in your life.
What's at stake?
- Their personal educational and career success
- Their self concept
- Your peace of mind
- Your financial investment
Part of the parenting role is to help your child chart their course in life. It's a life-long journey that requires many decisions along the way! Missouri Connections is a tool to help your child learn about career options and job expectations so they can make sound educational and career decisions for creating a plan to achieve success as they define it. Missouri Connections is a "one- stop-shop" that takes their education and career planning to a higher level.
With Missouri Connections and your support, they can:
- Better understand themselves, explore their interests, and discover their talents.
- Investigate education and career options so they can create a Personal Plan of Study or "My Plan" that is right for them.
- Use the abundant resources for college and training exploration, find options to finance their future education, understand employment skills, and learn about high demand jobs in careers in which they have interest.
- Make the connection between school, learning, and their future in the work world.
- Develop a unique plan as they seek their own answers to important questions, like:
- Who Am I?
- Where Am I Headed?
- How Do I Get There?
FMS Counseling Department: Mrs. Burfield, Mrs. Horstmeier and Ms. Jo
Needing to see the school counselor?
Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chrome books by clicking on the apps button. This form comes only to the counselor's. 6th graders will learn how to use this app on Tuesday, August 27th when counselors meet with them through their ELA classrooms. You can also ask your teacher for help. If you can't locate the form you can also shoot your school counselor an email. Obviously if there is an emergency, students will be sent to the Counselors Office immediately. This is just a great way to help students stay in the classroom for instruction time .
Here are a few ways you can reach out to us in the FMS Counseling Office:
Mrs. Horstmeier works with students with a last name starting with an A-J and can be reached at shorstmeier@fulton58.org and Mrs. Burfield works with students with a last name starting with a K-Z and can be reached at cburfield@fulton58.org.
Ms. Jo is the Counseling Office secretary and can be reached at jwilliamson@fulton58.org.
Counseling Office phone number is 573-590-8208

Great job at the concert! We heard a LOT of progress made in all three bands!
For those who want their instruments cleaned or repaired, Lincoln County Music visits on Thursdays and Palen Music visits on Mondays. We will most likely be able to get instruments back from Lincoln County before break, but with Palen, you will have to go pick your instrument up if you want it back before break. Please let Mr. Thomas or Ms. Neudecker know if you'd like to send your instrument off to be cleaned or repaired.

News from the Art Room
6th Grade
We will be working to finish our torn paper animals. Students will use subject matter and themes in their artwork. Students are into it, and doing well. They begin by creating simple shapes of their favorite animal or animal that interests them, and they create a textural effect by tearing and gluing paper in all the areas of this paper to create a sort of relief mosaic rendition of their animal. This project focuses on the theme, but also focuses on process and achieving results. This project takes a few weeks, but they are usually pretty excited about the end results.
7th Grade Semester
Students will begin a new unit this week looking at and focusing on folk art as a base. Making connections of art and the work around them we will ask the question, what inspires us? students will get into painting on this project, and experimenting with this medium. Will use a variety of references to create an inspirational painting using a quote from a person they take inspiration from. Students may choose historical figures, artists, or celebrities that inspire them and will be drawing and painting character portraits with a quote.
7th Grade All Year
Students are creating Pop Art as part of continuing study of analyzing and evaluating art in ELO3.
Students will look at various works of art particularly in the POP Art genre, and use candy as a way to create their own independent study of this art style. Once finished we will start another mini project with emoji and following instructions for setting up a project using specialized tools and measurement.
Students will also work on a mini project with creating a radial balance or asymmetrical balance using emoji as a template.
We will move to our next ELO in January, and we will continue mini projects covering the ELO’s we have covered thus far along with some fun mini projects along the way.
8th Grade Semester
ELO4:Students will explain the connections between art and the world around them.
Students are continuing their work on Stained Glass designs and use tissue to create a stained glass look concentrating on positive and negative space. we will also go over safety practices in the classroom.
8th Grade All Year
ELO4:Students will explain the connections between art and the world around them.
Students are continuing work in making artistic connection, and will be working on Dragons as a concept to build special relationships in drawing. Students will also utilize concepts used in previous units with value, line creation and similarities in texture and overall composition.
We will move into our Blow Up designs where we take a mechanical object and draw different perspectives and focus on overall composition. This challenges students to take a deeper awareness of the world around them and see objects differently by taking a different look at ordinary everyday things we see. It pays close attention to detail.
As always, if you have any questions, or concerns please don’t hesitate in contacting me through email at cchapman@fulton58.org
