Greetings Panther Families

Our second semester has kicked off after a long and (hopefully) relaxing winter break. This semester will be a busy one as we have many things to look forward including state testing and graduation for the class of 2018!

Before we know it, we will be wrapping up the 2017-18 school year, so please stress to your students the importance of staying on top of their academics and not waiting until the last minute. We will continue offering after school tutoring as well as Panther Academic Saturday School (PASSS) to provide additional support for our students. Look for the calendar in your weekly Panther Prowl, our school website, and some of our various social media outlets, including my Twitter account @CoronaPrincipal.

If you have not already done so, please sign up for our counseling department's Remind 101 notices to stay current with important information (see counseling section below). You should also have your account created to access your student's academic records online and through our school app. This will ensure you'll have the most up to date information regarding attendance and grades; you can also email your son's/daughter's teachers directly.

Enjoy your first Panther Prowl of 2018!

Principal

Schoolwide News

Panther Academic Saturday School (PASS)

PASS will resume on January 27. We are still finalizing the schedule, but look out for updates in next week's Panther Prowl.

Corona STEM Academy

On Monday, January 22nd we will be hosting a Project Lead the Way (www.pltw.org) site visit as part of the annual PLTW regional conference held in Riverside. This is the second year that we have been selected to host such a visit. This gives visitors (made up mostly of teachers and administrators from throughout California) an opportunity to see some of our STEM classes in action as well as interacting with some of our teachers and students to learn more about PLTW. It is an honor to be selected as it validates the efforts of our STEM Academy staff and students.

Academic Decathlon

This year Corona High School will be hosting the annual Riverside County Academic Decathlon competition. The event is a two-day competition held on two consecutive Saturdays, January 29 and February 3. Decathletes compete in ten events including speeches, exams, and the culminating Super Quiz. Our team has improved every year under the coaching of Mrs. Mentor-Hartman. In the past three years we have come in either 3rd or 4th our of 30 Riverside County high schools; higher than any other participating school in our district. We are looking forward to another strong showing from this year's home team. The awards ceremony will be held on February 3 in our Performing Arts Center at the conclusion of the Super Quiz.

Textbook Room News

Parents, every year as we near graduation students are notified of outstanding textbooks that can lead to obligations. These outstanding books can end up costing the school thousands of dollars collectively if not returned. For seniors, this may result in withholding of the diploma. As notices are sent home regarding obligations from our textbook room, please work with your students to ensure that all books are returned. You may contact Mrs. Rapp (mrapp@cnusd.k12.ca.us) in the textbook room if there are questions regarding this issue.
