JROB's Dugout News
#memorablemeaningfulandmeasurable October 9-13
Team Robinson as we have settled into the 2017-18 school year remember to take One Day at Time!
Dr. Miller and Ms. Spenker's Data Conversations, Classroom Noticings of Daily Learning Intentions, Environment and Student Engagement
Data Conversations - What a delight to engage with you over the past two weeks about your scholar Dolphins and their "current" data story and the focused goals you have set for them as learners. I appreciate the time and effort that many of you took to really analyze your summative data and set a plan of action that will change their performance outcomes and data story because you were their teacher:) The best part of all the data conversations was the opportunity to listen to your knowledge and personal intimacies, characteristics and personalities of your 6 case study students.
Student Data Stories are changing because of the focused work of a teacher's goal:
After giving BMF in multiplication at beginning of the year, 24 students were not meeting the math facts standards. All of these students worked through nightly homework on each of the facts. After a 2nd test on September 22, 13 were still not meeting the standards. They worked through nightly homework encompassing all of the facts. As we begin our unit on multiplication of double-digit numbers next week, I gave these 13 a test today:
7 passed
4 passed 1 but missed 4 on the 2nd or went over 4 minutes. They are close!
2 are still at 1
So this is a toot toot for these scholars who WANT to be mathematicians. Proud of their hard work and determination. they were made to be awesome!
As we embark on the next 10 months together, keep in mind it is truly One Day at a Time but that days and time are always driven with a clear PURPOSE to meet our GOALS.
Noticings from Miller and Spenker:
Learning Intentions - Many classrooms have started to visually display the daily learning intention (What, Why and How). As a school community we are still in the learning stages but just a couple of tips to support:What - is the standard (not worksheet, not test, not book)
Why - is this relevant, why is this important (transfer)
How - students demonstration of the standard/learning
It is not just about the visual display, it is really about the students understanding their daily learning opportunity. Keep in mind, how you are supporting them through this process at the beginning and ending of the learning time frame.
Let's continue to practice to support consistency and alignment of instructional practices that lead to .72 effect size of growth.
Monitoring the Environment - Teachers should be actively engaged in the learning environment during class periods. Actively engaged means: Monitoring the learning environment (up and down the aisle), 1:1 or small group conferring with students, during guided practice teachers are asking and probing students thinking if noticing misconceptions.
Student Engagement - Many classrooms are integrating technology into daily or weekly practices, Yeah! As we engage in more integration, Tech Time should be intentional and purposeful (What, Why and How) towards grade level standards not gaming or as a free reward times.
Every Day is #memorablemeaningfulandmeasurable

Fire Drill Expectations for exiting a classroom...
Students had predetermined roles and knew their roles well.
The class exited in a single file line and had stopping points.
The door monitor checked the door to make sure it was unlocked.
Great job Ms. Blair's class!!!!
Female Leadership Academy(FLA)...challenges the JROB community to pay "Kindness and Humanity" forward
Female Leadership Academy (FLA) is showing kindness and compassion towards victims effected by Hurricane Harvey. Throughout the month of October, FLA will be collecting monetary donations to be given to the Red Cross and sending "kindness and thinking of you notes" to Puerto Rico, Texas , Mexico and Florida victims. Let's support FLA's efforts as individual teachers or as a classroom.
Below is a link to a video to share/discuss with your class about what it means to be kind.GFS Squad aka Safe and Civil reminders and updates...
STOIC......highlighting component: I = Interact
Build stronger relationships:

4. Give compliments with specific feedback
5. Slow down listen and look in the eye
Educators across the nation are talking about #buildrealtionships. What are some of your daily practices you could add to this list? Share your ideas on the poster outside of Ms. Spenker's office.
