Humanities Weekly Update
February 13th, 2021
Dear WHES Families,
Happy (almost) Valentine's Day! Below is a quick summary of what's happening in the library along with some links to read alouds and ebook info!
What's happening in the library?
Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade continue their celebration of Black History Month with Derrick Barnes’s Crown: Ode to a Fresh Cut. We’ll start brainstorming our own story ideas too. We’ll think about characters, setting, and the sequencing (beginning, middle, and end) of our stories.
3rd, 4th, and 5th graders will talk more about how to ask good questions. We’ll read Whoosh!: Lonnie Johnson’s Super-Soaking Stream of Inventions. We’ll be using the cover of the book to develop thick and thin questions before reading this narrative nonfiction book.
Black History Month read alouds
The librarian at Carver Elementary put together a wonderful list of Black History Month read alouds. The books in the list include links to Youtube videos of the read alouds.
