A Message from Mrs. Scherpinski
As we approach the Thanksgiving Holiday I want to take a moment to THANK all of our Spreckels Families for their support. Thank you for sending us students who are kind and respectful. Students who are excited to learn and eager to be at school (well, most of the time!). Thank you for communicating often with your child's teacher. Working as a team makes all the difference. Thank you to those who are able to volunteer in the classroom, on field trips, and for our fundraising events. Thank you for supporting PTO and SUEF in their fundraising efforts. Thank you for being an important part of Spreckels School. TOGETHER, we will continue to provide students a caring school community that expects high academic standards and supports social and emotional well-being. A school that fosters the love of learning.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Parent/Teacher Conference Week
Dismissal Time @ Spreckels School (everyday but Wed.) is 12:20 for TK/K and 12:25 for all other grades
Wednesday dismissal time: 1:05 for TK/K and 1:00 for all other grades
This Monday-Friday are parent/teacher conferences. This conference offers a special opportunity for parents and teachers to share information about your child. The best conferences end with both the parents and teacher feeling they have learned something about the child.
Parents can make the most of their conference time by using some of these suggestions offered by parents and teachers.
Before you go:
*Think about what you want to tell the teacher about your child.
*How does your child fee about school?
*What does your child like to do after school?
*What special interests does your child have?
*Is there anything you would like to tell the teacher that would help?
him/her understand your child?
*Ask your child what you might discuss with the teacher and look at
in the room.
At the Conference:
*Arrive on time.
*The teacher will be prepared to tell you about your child’s school
work. Here are some questions you might ask:
- In what subject does my child do well?
- What needs improvement?
- Are there any special programs that could help my child?
- What can I do at home to help my child?
Ask questions about any part of the school program that you have
questions about (homework, recess, test results, etc.)
Be aware that other parents are waiting for their conference. Leave
promptly when your conference time ends.
When you get home:
*Tell your child something good that the teacher said about him/her.
*Jot down any important points to share with other family members.
*Keep communicating with the teacher throughout the year.

Safety Drills
Every month we have at least one safety drill. So far we have had two fire drills, an earthquake drill and a real earthquake! All of the teachers have also reviewed and discussed lockdown/active shooter slides (our TK/K classes have a picture book they are sharing.) Throughout the remainder of the year we will continue to have drills (which will include an active shooter drill/lockdown drill, and an evacuation drill.) We practice so that in case of a real situation we will be prepared and the students will know what to do. We practice at different times of the school day and in different situations. The drills have been almost flawless and I know that in a real emergency the staff and students will know what to do.
