Challenge News

The change we made to our Challenge day has been working great! The kids have gotten the opportunity to work with friends from the other group and they have shown us their ability to collaborate with all different types of personalities. Also, we have enjoyed having all of the students throughout the day. With the switch being such a positive change, we have decided to continue it through the end of the year.

Field Trips

We are extremely excited to be going on two field trips this year! Our first field trip is in March to the Houston Museum of Natural Science. In April, we will be going to the KISD STEAM Center for hands-on Architecture labs. Field trip permission slips are going home this week. Please make sure to sign both permission slips and return them to us by February 28. If you are interested in chaperoning, please complete the Google Form sent out last week. You may access the form by clicking the link below.

If your child has brought home a packet with a bright orange "Photo/Video Permission Form" it is because his/her current privacy code restricts the teachers at the STEAM Center, and us, from taking any pictures of him/her while on the field trip. If you wish to allow us to take picture on the day of the field trip, please complete the form and return it with the field trip permission slips.

Archaeological Experience

Friday, Feb. 10th, 1pm to Saturday, Feb. 11th, 5pm

KISD Welch Outdoor Learning Center

The KPGT Archaeological Experience is this Friday and Saturday. To reserve a spot for your Challenge child at “The Dig” use the link to register. http://tinyurl.com/gw3tz4h

The simulated dig site activities will be for current Challenge students only. However, siblings may participate in all other activities including archaeological presentations, exhibits, and hands-on activities from prehistoric life in Texas. For more information about the event please visit http://kpgt.org/

Help Needed

As always, we appreciate your help in providing all the supplies we have asked for lately. We would love to have your help on some projects on which we are currently working. If you can stop by school this week, next week, or the following week for about a half of an hour, we would appreciate it. For our mummification of hot dogs, we need parents to assist the children in mixing more salt and baking powder, and changing it out. We will also need help with rolling out clay, too, for Egyptian cartouches. Email judyasederholm@katyisd.org to let her know when you can come help.

International Festival

The BHE International Festival is Thursday, February 16 from 5:30 - 8:00 pm. This festival really ties in with our study of "culture" in our Archaeology unit. Please try to come and bring your family. Be sure to see our international doll collection in the display case in the hallway by the gym.

TECHNOLOGY

Encourage your child to visit our website bhegt.weebly.com. There are so many incredible lessons, videos, interactive games and websites that relate to our units.
