In Case You Missed It:
I received word that Alice McIver is coming back to work on March 15th! I know 7th grade and her bus will be excited to have her back. Thank you to Nathan and Monica for splitting her hallway and Libby and DJ for covering her bus.
The tornado drill was extremely successful. I wanted to give a huge shout out to our sixth and eighth graders for handling the transitions well. Everyone did an amazing job! Officer Scott said Mrs. White's class dropped down to the ground without batting an eye.
Alex Merricks collaborated with music teachers in and outside our district to enable our students to work and learn from others on Friday and Saturday. The culminating event was a concert for the community. Thank you to Tommy and Nick for giving up the gym on Friday to allow for this to happen!
We have had 90% of our certified staff to take the NC Teacher Working Conditions Survey. If you have not seen Nejla for your code, haven't completed the survey, or are having problems, see Nejla Monday. Let's get our 100% rate and move on.
Reminders of staff expectations:
- Elective teachers on duty that week must be on duty at 7:00 am
- All teachers are on duty at 7:20 am monitoring hallways and classrooms
- Teachers on car duty must come out to the line when the bell rings. Teammates should walk those teachers' classes out to buses.
- ALL teachers not on car duty are expected to go out on the bus lot and monitor students. Do not stop and talk to each other in groups. Do not stop and watch from the building (even on bad weather days). Spread out on the lot and ensure students go directly on the bus. When all students have boarded the buses, you may leave the lot.
- One student may sign out of your classroom at a time (bathroom, office, etc). Do NOT send groups or pairs to run errands.
- No more than 4 students may go in the restroom at a time. Do not allow students that have issues with each other in the the bathroom together. If you have a class or groups that have issues in the bathroom, then send one or two at a time. Be strategic on who is able to go in at the same time and who is lined up together.
- Do not leave students unsupervised. This includes locker rooms, classrooms, and bathrooms. If you go as a class, leave as a class. If you send a group somewhere, they must have supervision.
- If you would not allow all students to do something, do not allow some or one student to do it.
- Do not send students to a coach's classroom during the school day. They are teaching, too. If a player needs something, email or call the coach. Paperwork for a coach or AD should be sent to the front office. We will place it in the appropriate box.
- If you are seeing a change in a child's behavior or grade in your class, call the parent. They cannot support you if they do not know.
- Grades MUST be updated weekly in PowerSchool. At least one grade per week MUST be entered for each class.
- In addition to putting absences in AESOP BEFORE 6:00 am, Teachers must contact (email and/or text) their team and ALL admin if you are going to be absent.
- Teacher Assistants that are going to be absent must email the teachers they work with and admin.
- Bus drivers MUST call Jamie Cox concerning an absence. If you are not able to reach Jamie, then call Joy.
- Gaye and I do everything in our power to not have teachers cover classes. We call subs, move subs into classrooms that do not have a TA, and treat subs well. Please do not gripe to the person in charge of assigning coverage for your team. They are the messenger. See Betsy if you are upset about the amount of coverage or have suggestions concerning coverage.
Thank you Peggy Mann!
Thank you Denise Freeman!
Thank you Freddie Atkins!
