Guidance
We are focusing on what is happening in our brain to cause us to feel symptoms of stress. Students are learning about the fight, flight or freeze response and how it comes in to play when we we are experiencing a lot of stress. Students then visited different mindfulness stations, learning how to do the following techniques:
1. Deep Breathing
2. Positive Self Talk
3. Noticing and Accepting Thoughts
4. Grounding Techniques
5. Body Scan (progressive relaxation)
Thank you for taking the time to talk to your 3rd, 4th, and 5th grader about these strategies!
AVID for Incoming 6th Grade Students
What is AVID?
Avid stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID students selected for the AVID elective class are students in the academic middle, capable
of completing a college preparatory path with support. These students often are not realizing
their full potential academically. AVID is designed to support these students, closing the achievement gap and access to a college education.
