A Note from Nurse Jennah
The health office at Odyssey has been overwhelmed with sick students lately. While I understand that certain illnesses can present suddenly during the school day, some students are arriving to school unwell and are trying to “tough it out” and make it through the day. This is especially seen with coughs, sore throats and stomach-aches. At Odyssey, we strive to adhere to the best practices and guidance that the Connecticut Department of Public Health offers us. In accordance with their guidance, I am seriously urging all parents to help protect our students and staff members by keeping their child home if they are exhibiting ANY symptoms of illness. This includes but is not limited to: fever over 100, frequent cough, congestion, excessive runny nose, sore throat, fatigue, headache, body aches, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, unknown skin rashes, etc. If we can keep these symptoms out of school, we will in-turn be able to keep more students and staff in school.
I understand that it can be difficult to decide if your child's symptoms warrant them to miss school therefore I urge you to call or email me before sending your child in. Together, we can determine what is best for your student and weigh any risk they may pose to others.
Lastly, please discuss with your children the importance of frequent and thorough hand washing. This is the number one thing everyone can do to prevent the spread of germs.
Thank you for your help in keeping our community safe and healthy.
