RH JH/HS Principal Corner 10/24
It's always a great day to be a Tiger!!!
First Quarter is in the books!
Hard to believe that we are finished with the first quarter of school. Grade cards will be printed out early this week.
Now, there are some differences in what eligibility between the junior high and high school after quarter grades. Teachers have been great in explaining the implications of their grades. I do want to take the time to explain those to everyone.
For High School
- If students have a D+ or lower, they will need to adhere to our tutoring policy. It can be in the student handbook on page 8. Click here for a link to the handbook.
- If a student has any kind of D, they are still eligible to participate in activities but must complete two sessions of tutoring. If tutoring is not complete, they are ineligible.
- If a student has one or more F's, they are ineligible. They can participate in practices but cannot compete until the grade is raised. They must also complete tutoring twice a week to become eligible.
- Once grades are risen to all C's or higher, tutoring is not required.
For Junior High
- Per MSHSAA policy, if a student fails to pass all classes at quarter, they are ineligible for the entire next quarter. Although tutoring is still required until their grade is raised to become eligible for the following quarter (so at this point third quarter), they cannot participate in activities for the next quarter (second quarter).
- If a student has no F's but D's, the same policy applies to junior high as it does high school. If a student has any kind of D, they are still eligible to participate in activities but must complete two sessions of tutoring. If tutoring is not complete, they are ineligible. Once a student's D's have risen to all C's or higher, tutoring is not required.
Side note: the high school MSHSAA policy is much like the junior high except a student's semester grades are taken into account. This means if a student fails a class at semester, they are ineligible for the entire next semester.
I know this can be confusing, especially how MSHSAA treats each building different, but if you have any questions, please feel free to contact us in the office.
Parent Teacher Conferences
Your student’s education is a partnership between home and school. We therefore invite you to attend our Parent Teacher Conferences from 1-7 PM on Thursday October 28th. This is a great time to sit down with your child's teachers and talk about their progress. I strongly encourage all parents to come out and attend. Here are a couple of items though about conferences that I would like to explain:
- If coming in-person is of concern, please feel free to reach out to teachers and set up a time to call or Google Meet/Zoom. If email is a great way to communicate, please utilize that resource.
- If you would like to set up a specific time with a teacher, please feel free to reach out to those teachers to set that up. Junior High and High School conferences are usually more of the walk-in style but if you want to ensure that time with a teacher, please reach out.
- Please do not forget that we have a half day on Thursday October 28th. This is to have the most time available on Thursday for Parent Teacher Conferences.
- We also do not have school on Friday October 29th.
