We will also have a school bus available for kids and parents to board and check out the new safety belts we just installed for all riders.

Keep on reading on!

The best way to become a better reader is to spend time reading.

Did you know that when kids don’t read over the summer they are likely to fall behind when they head back to school? These learning losses are often called the “Summer Slide,” and our school has made it a priority to keep our students’ skills sharp by encouraging them to read all summer long. Spending just 20 minutes of reading time each day will make a dramatic difference in your child’s success in the coming school years.

Our school will be participating in a summer reading challenge developed with input by WCHE students. Set a goal, read some new books in fun places, and be smarter than ever when you read over the summer! All summer reading forms are due by Friday, August 24. Will you achieve your summer reading goal?

If you need suggestions for books, here are summer reading lists from the Association for Library Service to Children:

Grades K-2 List

Grades 3-5 List

Grades 6-8 List

LTMS Summer Reading 6th Grade

Remember to visit our local libraries for fun reading programs and lots of great books!

Have a great summer filled with fun, adventure...and READING!

Support our Outdoor Learning Center and Garden!

Our 2018 5th Grade graduating class helped us break ground on our Outdoor Learning Center this past May! With shovels in hand, this wonderful group of students got this project started. The 2017-2018 5th Grade Class has generously donated an outdoor bench and table for the Learning Center. Their legacy gift will include a custom plaque engraved with their class information.

Construction is currently underway and our Outdoor Learning Center should be ready for all of us to enjoy this coming school year!

You too can make a "pawsitive", lasting impression in our Outdoor Learning Center! Please see details below and CLICK HERE to support our project.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available for our WCHE Outdoor Learning Center and Garden. Your family name can forever be in one of three places in the garden, depending on your sponsorship level. This is a lovely way to:

  • Recognize students for their achievements
  • Congratulate students on their promotion to Middle School
  • Thank a caring teacher
  • Leave best wishes for a special milestone

Platinum level-Garden Shed

Your family name will be on a cast metal plaque on our Garden Shed.

$2500 (one available)

Gold level-Picnic Benches and Tables

Your family name will be added to a cast metal group plaque in the garden.

$100/share (33 avaiable)

Silver level-Brass Plaque

Your family name will be engraved on a brass plaque and attached to the stones in the seating area of the Outdoor Learning Center.

$30 each and unlimited opportunities available.

We will be offering this every year to all of our families.

The money raised will go to the garden maintenance fund and provide the students with soil and plants. We appreciate your support by helping our garden grow!

School Back in Session August 15

Our first day of school is August 15. The doors open at 7:20, and students should be in their new classrooms by 7:40 am.

School dismisses at 3:00 pm during the 2018-2019 school year.

Students go home in the afternoons by car, by school bus, by daycare bus, and some ride their bikes, some walk home alone, and some walk home with a parent or older sibling. Some Tigers stay with us and report to our Extended Care program. Important information that we will need to know by August 15 includes:

  • How your child(ren) will go home the first day of school
  • How your child(ren) will go home the first week of school
  • And, how your child(ren) will usually go home most school days.

We record and track the dismissal method used by your family in School Dismissal Manager. Later this summer, we will contact you and ask you to update School Dismissal Manager with the method of transportation to be used by your child(ren.)

If you have a new Tiger(s) coming to WCHE, please tell us how your Tiger(s) will go home. If you are a returning Tiger family, please let us know if your usual way home will be different than it was last year.

Happy summer!

Hang in there parents...it's almost time for Back To School!
