Summer Opportunities

Important Financial Aid Deadlines
California Financial Aid State Financial Aid Programs (CAHS submitted all currently enrolled seniors)
For most state financial aid programs, submit your application no later than April 2, 2024 (date postmarked).
Cal Grant
Cal Grant requires submission of a school-certified GPA by March 2, 2024. For additional community college Cal Grants, apply by Sept. 2, 2024 (date postmarked).
All Other Aid
Check with the financial aid office at the college or career school you plan to attend for more information on available state aid and deadlines. If you’re a noncitizen without a Social Security card or had one issued through the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, you should fill out the California Dream Act Application at dream.csac.ca.gov. Contact the California Student Aid Commission at csac.ca.gov or your financial aid office for more information.

FAFSA
FAFSA- Free Application for Federal Student Aid
UPDATE: THE FAFSA IS OPEN BUT THERE ARE SOME GLITCHES WITH THE NEW SYSTEM. IF YOU GET AN ERROR, KEEP TRYING!
2024/2025 School year FAFSA is now open
Any student in need of financial aid- including for the Palomar Promise will need to fill out this form. If you are choosing to not fill out the form you will not be eligible for financial aid through the government or through the Promise Program. You will also need to fill out the "Opt Out Form" if you are NOT filling out the FAFSA form.
Soft Launch of the 2024–25 FAFSA® Form
The 2024–25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form is available periodically as part of our soft launch. During the soft launch, the FAFSA form will be available for short periods of time while we monitor site performance and form functionality. We will initiate pauses for site maintenance and to make technical updates as needed to provide you with a better experience.
You can complete the form to apply for financial aid to help pay for attendance at college between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025. You will have plenty of time to complete the FAFSA form. If you do submit your form during the soft launch, your information will be saved, and you won’t need to resubmit your form or any related information. If your form is unavailable when you or your family members try to access it, please try again later.

SENIOR ATHLETES GOING TO PLAY AT NCAA COLLEGES
Seniors you are in your final year of high school!!!
Here are some things you need to be doing:
- Verify you have all the classes you need for graduation. Your counselors have audited each of you. Please check with them if you are unsure if you are on track to graduate.
- Begin filling out college applications
- Log into tcalearn.com to access Naviance and make sure your account is active (you need this to send transcripts to colleges)
- Begin looking for and applying for scholarships (our resource page is constantly being updated as we hear about new scholarships

- Turn in your community service hours

- Create a Common App account if your colleges of choice use Common App

PALOMAR/MIRACOSTA BOUND SENIORS
If you are planning to attend Palomar College or MiraCosta College (or another community college) starting next fall or this summer, now is a good time to start that process if you haven't already.
You'll for sure want to complete all the steps for enrollment by the beginning of May so you can have the best chance of getting into the classes you want/need as well as the Promise Grant (see information below).
To make it easy for you, simply follow the steps listed on the following websites:

The Promise Programs
The Promise Grants provide the following:
- Free tuition
- Money for textbooks
- Preferred registration for classes
- Access to other academic and career planning services

The Promise programs are offered on a first-come-first-served basis, so it is recommended that you complete all of the steps by the time you register for classes at the beginning of May. Please note that this includes submitting the FAFSA (even if you know you won't qualify for any other financial aid).

Student Athletes Wanting to Play at NCAA D1 & D2 Colleges
If you are an athlete and wanting to play in college there are certain requirements that must be met to ensure you are eligible. Check with your counselors now while you still have time to adjust your course load.
