Reflections from Elder's Desk
A huge thank you to Amiee, the counseling staff, and for each of you for your support during EOC testing.
On last Thursday and Friday morning, I participated in the Results Coaching training, and I cannot wait to incorporate the strategies that I learned to transform relationships, impact learning and enhance our school culture. According to a Gallup poll, "just 30% of U.S. teachers are engaged in their work. Gallup defines engaged teachers as involved with, enthusiastic about and committed to their work. They know the scope of their jobs and constantly look for new and better ways to achieve outcomes." According to the research, teachers were disengaged because they believe their thoughts did not matter. What steps do I need to take to sustain a campus culture where the opinions and thoughts of ALL are valued? Clearly, I was disheartened by this statistic and reflected on the ramifications at AMCHS. I will be intentional in valuing the opinions and ideas of others and look for continuous improvement.
David Rock states, “If you want to improve performance, the most effective way to do this is to improve thinking.” Coaching has been identified as the major strategy to do so, as well as to drive results and to aid in high levels of performance. Coaching is a culture of learning that allows one to partner with another person in a thought-provoking process that motivates a person to be their best. In contrast, coaching is not a fad or a thing of the past but allows a person to take action toward his or her goals in a nonthreatening way.
Clearly, the Results Coaching improved my skill set, helped me to understand the neuroscience behind coaching, and the process of effective coaching. I cannot wait to attend the two additional days of training in June.
Be intentional about bringing out the best in others.
