Principal's Message
I can tell you we had 82% (23/28) of our homerooms participate in the food drive. Additionally, we had 5409 donations, just short of our goal for the year. The top 3 homerooms were: Ms. Karvelius with 91.9 items donated/student, Ms. Cindy Miller's homeroom with 28.0 items donated/student and Ms. Walsh's homeroom with 26.6 items/student.
Great job to Ms. Buckly and Ms. Phillips for their work organizing the Murphy Food Drive with our Student Council. Thank you to all the students and families who participated. The work that SD308 does helps stock the Kendall County Food Pantry for almost half the year.
Great job, Mavs!
Maverick Mini Mall
Hey parents! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
The Maverick Mini Mall has been so kindly stocked with many yummy treats, but now we are looking for some additional items to add. The PBIS team has decided to create an 8th grade Exclusive Mall to entice our 8th graders to share in the excitement of the Mini Mall. Thank you for supporting Murphy and our students in making it an even better place!

Elyssa’s Mission 6th Grade Presentation 10/16
Murphy Junior High partners with Elyssa’s Mission (a nonprofit organization dedicated to suicide prevention) to provide depression awareness and suicide prevention training for our students as part of the Signs of Suicide® Prevention Program (SOS).
The SOS® program teaches our students the ACT message if they hear someone talking about hurting themselves or others: Acknowledge, Care, Tell. Please talk with your students about the importance of reaching out to a trusted adult in those situations.
The 2017-18 school year was the first year we implemented this program at all three grade levels. This year, and in following years, the full SOS® program will be presented to 6th grade and 8th grade classes. 7th grade will receive an abbreviated presentation from Student Services staff to review the ACT message. 6th grade presentations will occur on October 16th through Language Arts classes. 7th and 8th grade presentations will occur during second semester.
6th grade parents/guardians - please see the letter below for further information regarding the program as well as the process for opting your child out.

Maverick Way Outside of School
Sixth grade student Samantha Michael participates in the United States Equestrian Athlete Lettering Program. The program provides recognition for the accomplishments of young equestrians and encourages their future involvement in equestrian sport.
US Equestrian recognizes the dedication of equestrians preparing for competition through practice and training sessions as similar to other students in athletic programs and developed this program to honor individual achievements with a varsity letter in the student's chosen sport, regardless of the availability of an equestrian team or club through their school.
Participants in the program must be students in grades 5-12 who document at least 100 hours of training and provide verification of participation in three equestrian competitions during the year. After completing these requirements and verification, the student will receive a certificate commemorating their achievements, a varsity letterman patch and/or lapel pin for each year of participation.
Good luck, Samantha. We wish you well in your pursuit.
Murphy Junior High students are doing amazing things in the classroom as well as demonstrating “The Maverick Way” outside of school. If any student is demonstrating “The Maverick Way” outside of school we want to know about it! Please contact Brian Falli at bfalli@sd308.org or Brandi Zawacki at bzawacki@sd308.org.
