Bear Necessities
Vol. 1, No. 20
THANK YOU
I received so many kind wishes during my absence. I am feeling better and I am looking forward to getting back to work. If I have not yet replied to your specific email, I will do so by the end of the week.
We hear much about wanting to be free of the challenges of 2020, but let's remember the joys and blessings of this past year. too.
REmote Instruction
School will be closed on Monday, January 18 in observance of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr holiday.
Classes will resume in our school on Tuesday, January 19.
EXPECTATIONS FOR REMOTE LEARNING
GRADES K-5: Our K-5 classes can expect to participate in learning from 9:00 - 1:00 each day. Teachers will provide class schedules. The children will not be logged on every minute during that time. It will include time for live instruction and time to complete assignments. Teacher lunch breaks will be from 1:00 - 2:00 PM. Additional time from 2:00 - 3:00 will be provided for extra help or to have questions answered.
PRESCHOOL: Parents of preschoolers who are participating will receive schedules from the teachers. We understand that our youngest learners may need more direct support.
WORK SPACES: All children should be seated at a work space such as a table or desk. No one should be lying in bed. Although school uniforms are not necessary, all students should be dressed appropriately for an "out of uniform" day. Please have only the student present on camera. Although we know our students love their pets, their younger siblings, and the things in their rooms, these are not appropriate for the learning environment and are a distraction to others.
MATERIALS: All necessary books, writing utensils, and papers should be available before the start of class. Be sure they are kept together ready for class each morning.
CAMERAS: Our teachers are trained to read your child's expressions as they introduce material or conduct class discussions. In all grade levels, student faces (not just tops of heads) should be visible on the camera in order for teachers to monitor engagement and understanding. Since this is a fully remote process, all students will see each other and interact.
2021-2022 Registration
Current school parents will receive information about early registration next Monday. There will be an incentive for families to register ahead of the opening of general registration during Catholic Schools Week. EARLY registration will run from January 19 - January 30.
