Jaguar Journal
November 15, 2018
Principal Post
Our Veterans Day celebration was a great success on Monday. We want to thank all our veterans for their service and their time with DuJardin students and staff.
We want to wish all of our families a wonderful Thanksgiving. We hope you enjoy family and friends during this special time of the year. Students will not be in attendance the week of November 19th-23rd. School will resume on Monday, November 26th. The next Jaguar Journal will be sent on Thursday, November 29th.
Yesterday during our school improvement early release, DuJardin and Erickson teachers met to continue the conversation about standards based grading and reporting. Pilot teachers in grades K-4 shared the standards based pilot report card that is being used and will be shared with those parents tomorrow.
Report cards for first trimester will be going home with all students on Friday, November 16th. Some students are participating in a pilot standards based report card for math, science and work habits which will be attached to the current report card. Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for November 19th and 20th. This is an opportunity for parents to discuss their child's academic and social-emotional progress. Conference times are from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 5:00-8:00 p.m. each day. In order to sign up for a conference see the link below or call the school office at 630-894-9200.
Here are a few suggestions to review while preparing for your parent-teacher conference:
- First, assemble relevant materials including correspondence between the classroom and home that you think is necessary about discussing your child's progress.
- Next, talk to your child before the conference, share with your child why the conference is taking place and the purpose of the conference.
- Also, remember to discuss the MAP goal sheet for both reading and math with the teacher and how you can support these goals at home.
- Finally prepare a list of questions ahead of time and write them down so you can remember what to ask during the conference.
The best way to maximize your conference time is to be prepared.

5Essentials Parent Survey
2018-19 Illinois Parent Survey
Dear Parent, The Illinois State Board of Education invites you to participate in a school improvement survey for parents. Please Note: This survey is NOT a component of the 5Essentials Organizing Schools for Improvement Survey. In this survey, you will be asked to provide feedback about your child’s school. Please consider your child’s current experience at school (i.e., 2018-2019 school year). This survey is designed to help school and district leadership improve their understanding of the parent/school relationship.
All responses are completely anonymous. Responses to anonymous surveys cannot be traced back to the respondent. Additionally, your responses will be combined with other parents from your child's school and summarized in a school report to further protect your anonymity. Your participation in this survey is voluntary and you have the right to discontinue participation at any point.
If you have more than one (1) child, you may elect to participate multiple times.
The 5Essentials Parent Survey is now open. Parents are encouraged to complete this survey. Please use the following link to access the parent survey: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
