Panda Family News
We Learn. We Collaborate. We Celebrate.
A Note from Miss Fisher
Good afternoon #PandaFamily!
We are excited to roll into Week 3 in Pandaville for more learning, collaborating, and celebrating with our classroom families!
Reminders in this week's Panda Family News:
Pandas Can...and Did!!! PES met growth for reading and math tests in 2018-2019.
This week we will return to our normal morning arrival routine. Please sign in and out through the main office if your family chooses to walk your child to class.
Volunteers needed for the Science Fair, please contact Ms. Jacob.
Please do not park in the RAFI parking lot during arrival or dismissal.
We know traffic can get backed up during arrival and dismissal. In effort to keep our traffic flowing as best as possible, our traffic pattern enters from Pittsboro Elementary School Road and Farrell Street. Families may exit using McClenahan or 15/501 (Sanford Road).

Actually, Pandas Can...And Did!
Grades are based on school’s achievement score on state tests (80 percent) and students' academic growth (20 percent). The performance scores are converted to a 100-point scale, broken into 15-point increments, to determine a school letter grade of A, B, C, D or F.
PES Science Night - October 17th
Permission slips were sent home last week. Please discuss experiments with your student and return the completed the application.
We are also in need of Science Fair Judges and STEM hobbies or professions to display for Science Night, please contact Dara Jacob at dejacob@chatham.k12.nc.us if you can help in either way!!
Thank you for your patience!
We ask that you please be patient with us during the first few weeks of school in regards to the bus pick up and drop off time as routes are being established. We also ask that parents be patient during the morning and afternoon car rider line. During morning drop off we ask that you pull forward so that multiple children can unload at one time. During afternoon pick up, please remain in your car, pull forward when the line moves, and load students at the designated loading spots. Doing these things will help us to keep all students, staff, and families safe.
PES Arrival
Beginning Monday, September 9th, we will return to our normal Morning Arrival procedures. All visitors need to check in and out through the main office during arrival if you wish to walk your child to class. Families can also opt for Kiss and Go outside the red and green hallway entrance doors.
Early arrival is from 7:00-7:40. These students must go straight to the cafeteria where staff are on duty to provide coverage. Normal carpool arrival begins at 7:40-7:55. Once arrival begins please pull all the way up to the designated areas to keep the traffic line flowing.
PES Dismissal
Dismissal
Students will not be dismissed from the office after 2:15 PM. If it is after 2:15 PM, you will be asked to utilize regular dismissal procedures. Dismissal begins at 2:55.
Bus
Information regarding bus routes will be available during Open House. If you are interested in riding the bus, please visit the main office to fill out the appropriate forms.
Carpool
New tags for the 19-20 school year can be picked up from the main office. Please display the school-issued carpool tag when picking up your child and make sure your child knows his/her number. Please wait in your car at designated signs until an adult assists your child into your vehicle. Once your child is inside your vehicle, and has buckled up by themselves, please wait for the carpool lane to be dismissed and pull off slowly.
Here is a slideshow to help explain our double lane dismissal procedures. Share this with any family members or care takers that you have approved to pick up your child up on a daily basis. Please note carpool tags are a vital part of this procedure, in the event a carpool tag is not displayed, you will be asked to park and show photo ID in the main office to pick up your child.
Walkers **New Tags this year**
Please show the school-issued walker tag when picking up your child from the cafeteria. In the event a walker tag is not shown, you will be asked to visit the main office to show photo ID in the to pick up your child. Tags can be picked up during Open House.
YMCA
The YMCA is on campus for after school care.
Transportation Changes
All transportation changes must be emailed to the classroom teacher (prior to 8:00AM) or in writing to ensure teacher is aware of the changes. Last minute and/or emergency changes must be made to the main office before 2:00 PM. Please refrain from calling after 2:00 PM to make transportation changes as it will disrupt our dismissal procedures for the entire school. Any time a student’s transportation home changes from his/her regular routine, the teacher must receive a written note/email from the parent. Staff are directed to send students home the regular way unless a note is presented - a verbal request from the child to change transportation home will not be honored.
Health Care Plans
All medication forms and care plans must be updated each year. If you have a child who has had a care plan in the past, please reach out to Nurse Rains or Nurse Phillips to update the care plan and any necessary forms regarding medication.
Volunteer Applications
Volunteering with students and chaperoning field trips are two ways that you can support Pittsboro Elementary. You must be approved every year as a volunteer by our district office prior to working with students in these capacities. Please remember to complete the volunteer application. Access to the application link can be found on our school website as well as the district’s website.
