Best,

Celebrations
- We had a great meeting last week with our new teachers. Thanks to the assistant principals, particularly Dr. Angela Thompson, counselors, several teachers, and Roro Cotner for providing their assistance in welcoming them to WGHS.
- Thanks to the counselors and admin team for taking the time to meet with the ninth grade parents. Thanks to the Parents’ Club for welcoming the Class of 2023 parents.
- Special thanks to so many people who have worked so hard the past few weeks in getting the building ready – Donnie and all the custodians, Bill K. and his team, Kyle Tennant, many students, Matt Palmer, Harold Hardin, Byron Jimerson, Marquis Scott, and the teachers spending their extra summer time in setting up their classrooms. Please get to know the custodian who works in your room/area.
- Thanks to John E. Thomas, Julie Simonson, and everyone who assisted with 9th grade orientation last Thursday.
- Thanks to all of the staff members that took advantage of the many PD opportunities over the summer.
Reminders/Announcements
- Complete your back-to-school to-do list (on the HUB).
- Tomorrow is a special schedule. Students will attend all seven periods.
- Remember to report any address, name, or phone changes to Central Office and Daphney Sumner.
- Please remember to submit your medical information online. This is part of the August Staff Packet on the HUB.
- REMEMBER—DO NOT PARK in a handicap parking spot, unless you have an official tag.
- Reminder that Open House is Wednesday, August 28. All teachers must be in their classrooms by 6:30 p. m. More details and the exact schedule coming soon.
- Please see Roro Cotner in the Main Office if you are having problems with keys.
- Please plan ahead for absence requests—give Dwight Kirksey your request for school business or personal leave requests at least 10 days before the absence. School business requests (in service) must have the department chair signature before Dwight will approve them. These needs arise in the interest of our students and the sub caller. I appreciate your cooperation.
- Teachers: For clarification, when you place a form in my box to sign (tuition reimbursement, for example), I will sign it and place it back in your box for you to give to Central Office. Often, there is other paperwork required with the form.
- It is important to enforce the tardy policy. I suggest you allow students some grace time during the first day or so, but I expect everyone to enforce the policy.
- Please spend a few minutes discussing the lunch schedule with the students so they will have a better chance of figuring out where they need to go. REMEMBER THAT THE CLASSES IN THE NORTH SIDE OF THE BUILDING HAVE 1st LUNCH, AND THE SOUTH SIDE HAS 2nd LUNCH.
Upcoming Professional Development
- August 30: Building PD; Active Shooter Training
